Brands has shown he will wait.

All the best deals are done on the last day.

I'd rather we have him in much sooner so everything is settled by the time the season starts

Granted, Zouma shouldn't be too difficult to plug back in, but I'd like all of our starting XI to have worked with each other for the majority of pre-season

My worry is Zouma won't happen but we'll leave it too late and will have to panic buy another defender, which could end us up with another Funes Mori

Even if it means spending a few more notes, I'd like us to get this Zouma thing sorted, and if Chelsea are dragging the heels over what the new manager wants then we should go after one of the alternatives. Brands and Silva have done well so far with signings, I'd like to think they've got some good Zouma alternatives to pick from

You do realise that he scored a few goals in limited minutes and then was given a 13+ match run of starts that he played basically the whole match and scored absolutely no goals at all don’t you? Often struggling to even get a shot on target most matches

That coincided with a great run of results too if I recall? Look, he's not amazing, but I don't think he's terrible and has something to offer the team. Would like an upgrade too

I'm not that worried about Center Mid and it wouldn't be a priority for me

Plenty of options there either from vets like Jimmy Mac or Schneiderlin to young lads like Joe Williams and Benni Baningime (Not sure why he gets so much stick sometimes, thought he's always looked okay when he's played)

I'm also fine with Holgate as back up to Coleman at RB

For me we need to prioritise another CB (Zouma preferably, but you never know), another winger and another striker

Centre Mid and Number 10 isn't as important IMO, especially as if Siggy did get hurt we've got plenty of people who could play deeper in a standard 4-3-3 formation. We could even go 3-4-3 if needed, with Zouma, Mina and Keane in the back 3 and Digne, Gomes, Gana and Coleman in the 4
We should be moving McCarthy and Schneiderlin on. Wages too big and their values are just going to further depreciate with another year of warming the bench. We need backup/competition for Sigurdsson too, not necessarily a number 10 but a midfielder more attacking minded than Gueye/Gomes etc.

We 100% need a genuine challenger for Coleman’s spot, despite a good end to the season he was poor for large chunks of the season and Holgate is more centre half than he is a full back.

No one is taking Schneiderlin on those wages, so it's a case of playing him, making him stew in the reserves until he's willing to take a pay cut to play again or just straight up releasing him. Whilst he's here we might as well make use of him and, who knows, maybe he'll play well enough that someone will actually consider buying him?

Jimmy Mac isn't even close to being on Schneiderlin or Sandro money as far as I'm aware and he could be hugely useful for us if he can stay fit. We're never getting back what we paid for him at this stage due to his injury woes, so again we might as well make use of him

I'm happy enough with our Center Mid options and I think we can modify the way we play to make up for Sigurddson if he got hurt using the midfielders we already have on the books. It's not a priority position right now and we have to tackle recruitment window by window, focusing on the bigger needs first each time

What I saw of Holgate last season made me feel he's much better at RB now and he could definitely do that for us

To me striker, winger and central defender are priorities. If we sort those nice and early and other options come up then fine, but this window is going to be about getting as many players that we don't want off the books as possible whilst also strengthening in key areas. It's why we re-upped Baines for another season, because priorities laid elsewhere

Well @Eggs has linked us with other defenders, so we're clearly looking, but I'd honestly like the new CB (Whoever it ends up being) through the door ASAP if possible. If Chelsea dillydally then I'd like us to have another one lined up and ready to go. I don't think we should hang around to be honest, and if the whole Lampard things slows things down then we kind of just need to accept that things didn't line up for us on this one. Just my opinion of course, if both Brands and Silva really want Zouma then they could be prepared to let it go all the way to deadline day if needs be

....I imagine any Zouma deal will have to be sanctioned by the incoming Chelsea manager. Be interesting if other CB options are back-up in case Zouma isn’t released, or whether Brands is looking to bring in two CBs.

In a way though, if we get Zouma in and everyone is fit we’ll start next season with the settled team we had at the end of last season which can only be a positive. Obviously I’d like other signings in now but I feel we could still perform well from the offset.

I'd like Zouma to go through a Silva pre-season so he can be best prepared

As you say, his previous experience in the side means it shouldn't be too hard to acclimatise him, but I'd still like him here preparing under Silva's watch so he's prepared how the manager wants him in time for the big kick off

I like Holgate, he’s got the pace and the engine for it and likes a tackle but I don’t think he has enough quality on the ball to improve us in that position

Momentum should in theory pick up from now but the tendency in recent years across multiple windows is that the bulk of activity seems to be packed into a very limited time frame. You can have the majority of a whole years transfers done now within a two week period, so that leaves very little room for flexibility and time to cope with working down through a list of targets.

I'm confident they are on top of things and having Gomes with Lossl is about all we could have realistically hoped for by now.

I imagine we just need a straightforward answer from Lampard on Zouma before deciding to persue alternatives or not, but we need calrity as soon as possible.

With Brands and Silva bedded in this year, I hope we don't arrive at deadline day needing to get two or three signings over that line but that's much easier said that done.

Deadline day is great for business only if you do good business. The way things go now is that you need to have 80% of your business done by the end of July as things inevitably get stretched out until deadline day or a few days before otherwise. I hope at that point we have RB/CB Striker in and are looking to do a loan deal or two in the time left.
