Perez scored more goals than Zaha last season, so either he was undervalued or Zaha is MASSIVELY overvalued, I will let you decide which.

Perez doesn't play in the same position as Zaha. The only bearing that transfer will have on this one is that it's from one English club to another and therefore there is a premium to be paid on top of the players appropriate valuation.

Zaha averaged a goal or assist every 152 minutes last season. 10 goals and 10 assists. Don't think he'll be coming here for the money it would take to get him here. It's clearly posturing from Palace to prompt Arsenal to act.

Zaha is good and would improve us.

Doubt he’d want to come here tho and the price Palace will want will be absurd - without Zaha they will quite possibly go down.

Zaha for £80m....

Or Leao and Malcom for £80m? lol
Another good point we could sort two positions with two players whose value is very likely to increase for less than what Zaha would cost.

Buy low sell high. Do you understand that premise.

80m isn’t low. Malcolm is half the price. On the understanding that no one is buying Richarlison, you’ve got two choices - Zaha and no one. Malcolm and 45m to spend on a striker, or a Brazilian wonderkid, or a centreback. Which would you do?

Digne, Gomes, Bernard, all untested in this league when we bought them... so was salah, Aguero, Henry, bergkamp, ronaldo etc etc. You have to trust your scouts to identify they have what it takes to make it in the PL. I trust brands, based on last year.

Zahas game is largely prolific in the counter attack - do we need help in counter attack? Do we have more issue breaking defensive teams down at home?

How old is zaha? When does he get older? How old is Richarlison? How old is Malcom? How old is the Brazilian wonderkid? In 5 years who is more likely to retain their value?

He’s a good player - he’s totally not what we need.
Well, yes. I do understand the premise of by low, sell high. Keeping with that particular analogy, Japanese banks are particularly cheap at the moment, especially relative to say US tech stocks. However I wouldn’t necessarily want to buy a Japanese bank over, say Apple. The reason why they are cheap is due to the additional risk premium associated with them (ie they aren’t particularly profitable given interest rates in Japan, are cyclical within a highly cyclical market that is exposed almost entirely to the global economy). So whilst more expensive, Apple would be a more attractive option.

Same applies to this case. Malcom is cheaper because he is untested. Plus he’s recently struggled following a big money move. Which increases the risk premium further.

As I said, I would want Malcom too because I think he’s worth the risk (unlike Japanese banks!) but I can understand why Zaha is valued the way he is. He represents less of a risk and is about to hit his prime after a decent run of seasons.

I think that buying cheap kids and developing them is a great working practice. But it should allow you to spend money on players that can genuinely impact the team. And Zaha would do that immediately so I can see the thought process (despite what my preference is).
