Anyone got a link to the Times article

Should Arsenal conclude Pepe’s transfer when he returns from a post-African Nations Cup holiday in the United States, it will increase Everton’s chances of signing Wilfried Zaha. The 26-year-old forward has asked to be allowed to leave Crystal Palace this summer, with Everton understood to be near to agreeing a deal on a transfer prioritised by manager Marco Silva. Zaha’s preference had been to move to Arsenal, but the two London clubs could not agree a fee.

It’s not acceptable to be this close to the new season and still not having improved the squad from last year. The majority of pre-season games have now been played, in which we have been very poor against average opponents.

Get a move on, ffs.

I agree with this, on the face of it they were banking on getting Zouma, it doesnt appear from the outside there was a plan B.

As I eluded to after the Kariobangi game the attitude and mentality needs to change. I understand we need to try players and tactics during pre season and the results aren`t everything but we need to be looking to win every game. I do not get the feeling this is the case. I took a lot of abuse on this and look how preseason has been since! A bad start to the season will put MS under pressure with the dip we had last season...

....it’s Sunday 28th July, which by my reckoning means there’s 12 days of the transfer window left. Here’s this morning Toffee Transfer round-up;

- After losing back-to-back games in the Opel Cup, Everton boss Marco Silva couldn’t hide his disappointment and told the Liverpool Echo the Toffees may need to sign 5 players before Deadline Day if the team are “to do better than last season”. Silva is trying to convince Idrissa Gueye to ignore PSG but might need to bring in a replacement, along with a centre back, striker, right back and a winger.

- The Express report Everton are on the verge of selling Gueye, RMC say the Toffees have opened talks with Lyon over £20m rated Lucas Tousart but have not yet submitted a bid for the 22 year old.

- According to JuveFC.com, Everton are in advanced talks to sign striker Moise Kean. Sky Sports say the Bianconeri are asking £36m, whilst Corriere dello Sport suggests the Toffees are ‘crazy’ for the 19 year old and are happy to pay €40m to get the deal done. That article says they are unsure if a buy-back clause is stalling the transfer.

- Many outlets continue to link Everton with 26 year old Wilfried Zaha, and an eagle-eyed fan has noticed the Palace winger is now following Moise Kean on Instagram. The Express reckon the Blues are ready to eclipse Arsenal’s £40m bid, whilst Palace Manager, Roy Hodgson, has told Sky Sports he has no idea what is going on: “He’s dealing with the Chairman, The Chairman’s his link. They know each other very well and get on very well together. What is going on with Wilf is going on between him and the Chairman & I can’t enlighten you at all.”

- Journalist Duncan Castles reports Everton have been in touch with Lille regarding 20 year old striker, Rafael Leao, as the Toffees are not banking on signing Zaha.

- According to French Journalist, Saber Desfarges, Everton have lined up Chelsea midfielder, Tiemoue Bakayoko, as a possible replacement for Idrissa Gueye. The 24 year old spent last season on loan at AC Milan.

- The Express report Everton have joined the race for Southampton’s £20m rated 25 year old midfielder, Mario Lemina, whilst Sportslens say Newcastle are plotting a bargain £4m move for Everton’s James McCarthy.
[/QUOTE Meanwhile, the Echo have said that none of the above is true and that Everton are not interested in signing anyone.

I’m not sure if Silvia words have been misunderstood.....on first reading I thought he meant he needed five players back in the squad, as opposed to new players coming in. He specifically mentioned Gana and Richarlison and then something about DCL only being back a few days.
Every clubs dealing is slow again the transfer window...Sky runs Football, and Sky wants drama and viewers to be kept tuned in, hence the long drawn out sagas.
No, he literally said ‘we Need some important players to sign, we are looking at 5 players in 12 days’. There’s no misunderstanding, he knows what we need, just like we do. It’s just whether we get it.

One year loan for Schnerlin to Turkey...no fee but they pay all his wages.
Sounds reasonable to me. It's all about bringing down that wage bill.

Right now as things stand today with gaps in the spine of the team - we are looking bottom half of the table.

Everything can change but as the clock runs down. Marco must be wondering how could we go from a side with terrific end of season momentum with targets identified to scrambling around again to plug gaps on the eve of a new season.

Completely agree.

The wheels are coming off here.
