So we did make a bid of £52m, which was rejected, which begs the question as to why we bid that little, knowing Arsenal were laughed at with their £40m bid. Crystal Palace are known to want £80m. Additionally, if the manager wants him, go get him. Who cares about maintaining a good relationship with Palace?

It sounds like it was our first bid but when we sounded themnout they made it clear he is going to cost more than we had hoped so will move on

But we already knew that because they told Arsenal that they weren’t budging from their valuation. Our bid, given what we already knew from Arsenal, was an absolute waste of time.

To be honest, might be a subtle attempt by the club to get Zaha to try and force a move. If Zaha has already made clear he wants out, but he sees them negotiating based on what he reads in the media, he may be complacent to sit and let them take care of it, until he realizes its too late. However, with that statement Everton let it be known to Zaha indirectly that A. They want Zaha, B. They put in a large and fair bid(in probably both their and Zahas opinion) of around 52 million, and C. CP rejected it and Everton wont up their bid.

It seems Zaha wants out and we seem to be the only club interested, so a low offer makes sense. The end of the day Palace arent getting 80mil for him!

I only see this ending in him putting in a transfer request.
