Not defending his views but I’m not overly comfortable with the idea of the club basing their recruitment strategy on people’s religious, political or personal beliefs. I’m sure I’ve cheered a few players over the years who’ve said or done worse, and I probably will again.

Zaha’s Stats are really not all that, for £65m or whatever it is you’d want someone to come in and drag this squad up to the next level, he’s not good enough to do that in my opinion.

For a supposed signature summer signing I’d find it a little bit meh.

Tell me which £65mil players would be willing to come to Everton just now?

Let's remind ourselves what that Everton statement said about Zaha - "Both clubs agreed that was end of the matter." What has changed since then that might cause both clubs to reconsider ? It's hard to imagine that Palace are any more keen to do a deadline day deal which will leave them light going into the new season. And as for Everton, we'd like to bring in another wide player, but we're not so desperate that we need to offer more than our original valuation. So I'm very sceptical about this Independent story, it smells to me like something planted by an agent hoping to flush out new offers.

All this has prompted me to actually work out our net spend. So based on the prices quoted in transfermarkt we have a net spend of £21.5m.

The Lookman price looks too low quoted but ok maybe another £4m extra saving.

Got a few other assets available for sale that, again using transfermrkt valuations would bank us £59m. Tosun, Bolasie and Onyekuru being the most valuable 3... and no I’ve not included Snides as available. Just need someone other than a Turkish side to actually want them to get real money.
