We arent signing 4 wingers, probably what Thelwell is doing is what previously we have NOT done, and thats have more than one option. Hes got 3-4 irons in the fire, with plan A but plan B already in process to put pressure on them to accept our terms. That and to avoid having to scramble when they wait until the final day and turn us down.

The only way to really have leverage when buying a player and keep prices down is to have multiple options, and make that clear to the selling teams.

I agree, but we need at least 2. If we sign 2, that would give us 4 wide players if Gray stays. If he goes, we'd have just 3.

We really do have a paper thin squad.

Gnonto specifically can play off either flank as a second striker and probably as a forward too

He’s only played off the right twice for Leeds and 3 times at senior level in Switzerland.
He has played as a SS in Switzerland 26 times, so the manager could be looking to buy him with that in mind.
We really need someone with a bit of height and physical presence to lead the line though. I wouldn’t like to see Gnonto as a lone striker.

He didn't want to play for us 5 months ago.
Not saying I would want the lad after what he done to us at the worse time ever. One thing you know if for some strange reason it happened, he would certainly give it his all..
The lad totally shamed himself and he wouldn't want to be stuck with that tag, he'd want to prove himself more than ever..

I do question why Villareal are so happy with not having him around the club though..

Yes his form was still that of a £15m player, nothing more. If he starts the way he finished then we can talk higher values, not before then
Remember tho he did start and finish under 2 completely different managers..
Lamps actually devalued him the poor lad..

Ah, so now we are pretending the winger who scored a goal every 350 minutes for us isnt any good. You all are as bad as the board at valuing players. If we got a goal every 350 minutes from our wingers we'd have 20 goals just from the wing. Considering the entire rest of our forwards had 9 goals, and he was a top 10 scoring winger in the league, its deluded to think hes only worth 15m right now.

So we are signing; Gnonto for the LW, Elanga for the LW, Danjuma on loan for the LW.

Dwight McNeil must be crapping himself! I guess we must be selling Gray?! And we are going to play some of these on the RW?
I believe gnonto has primarily played as a second striker or as a RW prior to Leeds last season.

Danjuma has also quite often played across the front 3 positions. And over the last 2 seasons has primarily been played as a CF.

Elanga has played more games at RW than LW in the last 2 seasons but also plays across the front 3. (All stats taken from transfermarkt).

It looks like we are after players who are adaptable and give us multiple options in the forward line. I also expect that we sign one permanently and one on loan and don’t sign the third. And I think we will still try and get an out and out CF.

Some yikes takes. I don’t think he was perfect by any means but he somehow lost value after he showed he can put it in the back of the net FROM THE LEFT SiDE AS A LEFT FOOTER. You heard that right. He doesn’t cut in from the right, HE CAN SCORE FROM HIS STRONG SIDE. He has spectacular close control. He has great defensive work rate AND CAN EVEN PLAY LEFT BACK. He has some kinks he needs to work out but Christ almighty. He has shown enough to justify his value.

But nearly all our players last season had Premiership experience before joining Everton. That wasn't necessarily true of....dare I say it....Brighton. Maybe we should be casting our net wider

Exactly … prem experience ? If that experience is of getting beat most weeks battling relegation or experiencing the subs bench and getting paid millions …. I don’t really see it as a plus point.

I’d much rather take a chance on a young player or a player from abroad that is hungry to prove themselves in the prem …

Would be classic Everton to spend all of their transfer budget on a RB - 12 months after spending £14m on another RB - when we actually need 3 attacking players

After extending a 34 year old rb contract and signing a 38 year old which can also play rb

If I were in charge I wouldn’t return Danjuma or his agent’s phone call, but in reality he could be a smart signing. Versatile player, Spurs fans seemed to think he did well in his limited time there, and most importantly we should be using loans heavily for attacking reinforcements right now. Those deals tend to be tough to pull off, so I wouldn’t blame us for being open to it. Obvious statement, but players capable of putting the ball in the back of the net are expensive, and tend to not be available if they’re doing it consistently.

I’d get him on the phone and put him through the medical only to pull the deal as he is about to sign the paperwork
