The Rice deal is a massive eye opener for those like Zat who think Everton can pay on the never never for players. He has signed a 5 year contract but notwithstanding Arsenal have to pay £100 million over 24 months .
Now you realise why Everton can't sign players for fees. Of course the selling club can agree to accept a longer payment schedule but why would they?

Player power if somebody wants to join a particular club then the selling clubs would be forced to accept what is on offer or be left with a disgruntled player who doesn't want to be there.

Yeah I get you, obvs I would prioritise a striker and maybe a quality left back and right midfielder first but our defence was still rock bottom for almost all of last year in alot of metrics and was bailed out alot by Pickford so Im just still a bit unsure about it atm

The sad thing is that the Defence is the least of our problems.. midfield offers nothing defensively and are incompetent at attacking and our forwards are either injured or nowhere near the standard required for this league (also not getting decent help from mid).
If Dyche can get the midfield fit to a point where they are actually able to track back and help out defensively and then make their way forward with a bit of pace a lot of our problems might be solved, an unfit midfield who can't put in the yards is our biggest problem, solve that and we'll be comfortable top half.

….not seen us even linked. From what I can see he’s a midfielder & if we’ve got £20m to spend then surely our priorities lie elsewhere.

It's a resigned apathy now, which is even worse.

I think "resigned apathy" is probably the most accurate. I remember throwing things after that Bournemouth match where Barkley scored in like the 96th minute, mini pitch invasion and then they literally walked down the other side and scored against us. I barely even react when a goal is scored for or against us these days.

I reckon he will still be here next season. I think the bigger teams noticed his form tailed off and want to have another look at him over next season before making a move.

Which means once we've survived hell for the 3rd time in a row, moved in to BMD and also lost another heap of junk ( including kenwright ).
A new board will have been formed, a reset will have been started, Investment will be on the table, and Onana's valuation will have massively increased..

VAR has also played a part in this for me, I just can’t be arsed wasting energy celebrating a goal that could be ruled out by some fat bald pervert sat in a control room drawing lines on a screen who’s had a bet on the game.
