The point is going to Atalanta is not an upward step from Everton just because they have had 2-3 good sesaons in their history.

Come on mate, history doesn't matter a jot to these young players unless it is recent and tangible.

If he chooses us, it will be money and PL pull and nothing else. I strongly suspect however that he'll go to Atalanta because. . . Well, why wouldn't you?!

That's a fair point, but I think from what he said, that was specific to him as he felt he had a point to prove in the Prem after his Spurs fiasco.

Not at all. Best league in the world and we can probably offer higher wages. Get himself a few years experience and get his name out there and hopefully secure a move to a bigger club when he's 24 or so. That's probably what he'll think.

Some will be drawn by a bigger salary, as evidence of what's happening in Saudi Arabia. I would guess it would have to be a substantial difference though. If we are offering similar terms to Atalanta, I imagine the exposure of European competitions would be a deciding factor.
Either way, he won't be chosing Everton because we were good in the 80s
