PJ saying Everton believe they are still fully in EBT hunt but Atalanta believe it is sewn up is classic Kenwright era media management. Both cannot be right but keep the smoke blowing. Anyone putting £ on our judgement? No? Me neither. The point about payment schedule can validly be seen as getting our excuses in early for not having a viable back-up plan. It is partially that. It is also unfortunately largely simple truth. We are cash starved. What a mess we are.
Another we tried. Another wild goose chase. Another "look at us going for a hip name from Spain" we will never sign. Another failure by Chairman Bill another classic example of why he should have been fired out of a cannon over the Mersey rather than kept on.

Not sure how this fella would have the inside scoop on our transfer targets.

One is scoring at a less than impressive pace in a pretty bad league and the other is playing in league 2. I get the sentiment, but even with the state of our current squad, neither would get a sniff for us.

I meant as they were back then. They weren’t even a consideration in that squad, however both players as they were back would probably see decent game time in this squad.

It’s not happening unless we go big with wages, by all accounts the kid wants Atalanta. All we can do is up the wages or move on. This has got ‘saga until the last day only to be swerved and now there’s not enough time to get someone else and oh look 3 games have happened already’ written all over it
What I don't get is why they are pushing so hard when he plainly doesn't want to come to us

In the clubs defence (Cant believe im saying that) if we are offering say 75k a week but he wants 90-95k do we just up it to get him even if we don't think he is worth that salary yet?

Decisions like that have got us where we are today, struggling to get rid of players because of their high salaries. and running their contract down.
Absolutely take the point mate. But this is why need to be signing players in his age bracket. We are unlikely to be stuck with him.

The issue is when we've been offering dross over 26 long contracts on big money. In most cases, it's likely their last big payday, so why would they move? Most clubs that may be interested can't match the salary, so we are stuck with them. If it's a young lad (and I'm not saying this will always be the case) even if it doesn't work out, they are likely to want to play, so will be more likely to accept a wage drop elsewhere. And if we've scouted properly, they will move up to a bigger and better club and earn us a tidy sum.

So, imo (without going completely overboard) if we have the headroom in the budget to offer the lad a bit more than we'd like and he is our no 1 target, we should do it to get the deal done. But generally, yeah, we should be careful with the wages we offer.

Nope. It's the way it's written. Kenwright MO all over that. We might somehow pull the deal off, but I doubt it. It's written in such a way as to lower expectations. The wording is very specific.
I'm not saying you're wrong i'm saying it doesn't matter whether he's a lackey if what he's reporting is true and it probably is. I'm not happy with the owners and chairmen and all the rest of that shower and i'm not happy with the financial situation we seem to be in but thats just how it is and me not liking it doesn't make what that reporter is saying any less true as sad as that is. We know we can't put big payments down for players so its not surprising to hear this at all.

Because if we don’t push we end up with maupay.

And while I think we should put some pressure on by giving a deadline, we also need to show we want him because him feeling like we would do whatever it takes to get him will have an impact.
