Paul Mullin (Wrexham) would be brilliant for us. We had him as a youngster and so did Liverpool and we obviously both rightly let him go. He is now 29 and has come to his prime.

The goal is the same size and in the same place whatever league you play in and he knows where it is! He runs the channels and can hit it with both feet. When he isn’t making space for himself and running, running, running he’s in the box and doesn’t shy away from anything with his head. When he hits it, it’s usually 1st time (like Ancelotti taught DCL) and when not running into space he plays between the posts (like Ancelloti taught DCL). He’s not going to get PL football with Wrexham and remember where Vardy came from, for how much and what he did for a couple or three seasons. He is better than Gyokores and is a more all round footballer than Vardy.

Get him signed!
Tell me you are a mentally ill lunatic without telling me you are a mentally ill lunatic.

Now we’ve survived to stay in the PL, let’s all sit and watch as Man U, arsenal, Chelsea and co spend another 200m in this window while we shop in the “dented can” section and celebrate staying up again in another 12 months.

Well, I think our plan should probably be some sort of this:

Sign free agents:
Aaron Martin
Ryan Manning
Matt Doherty
Ellyes Skhiri
Adama Traore
Oliver McBurnie

Get rid/loan:
Virginia
Godfrey
Holgate
Mykolenko
Nkounkou
Gbamin
Gomes
Dele
Gray
Maupay
Simms

We also probably have to sell Onana to pick up some real money

Buy:
Tammy Abraham
Viktor Gyökeres
a winger like Jack Clarke
a centre half like Mo Salisu
a young DM like Emiliano Martinez

Squad:
Pickford/Begovic
Doherty/Patterson/Coleman - Tarkowski/Keane, Salisu/Branthwaite, Martin/Manning
Iwobi/Traore, Skhiri/Doucouré/Martínez, Gueye/Garner, McNeil/Clarke
Abraham/McBurnie, Gyökeres/DCL

I’m going early I know, …but there will not be a worse shout than McBurnie all summer. I wouldn’t have him if Sheffield Utd paid us £10m to take him.

The unfortunate reality of Everton Football Club right now. Perhaps if we were a global club with a global brand like those clubs, we could generate the kind of revenues they do and spend (again) like they do; but until then, that's where we are at.

Last year it was celebration, this year it was more relief, next season the same situation would probably be fury or apathy. If it's a comfortable finish in the dizzying highs of 12th/13th place, maybe we will be back to celebration again.

Good times.

They do indeed. It won't be with Everton unfortunately.

You have to accept that we have to profit on these signings and continue to find more of them. When we get to the stage that we're settled, winning and financially stable then we can hopefully keep whoever the future Onana, Garner, Branthwaites are

Zat. We HAVE to increase our revenue. The only way we can do that is by the sale of playing assets at the moment.

So if we get Onana for £30m last summer and he plays well enough for someone to pay £40m for him this summer; that's £10m profit. Given the comparatively low matchday revenue, limited sponsorship opportunities due to our position and lack of any other viable income streams at the club currently - the club can't generate that £10m in any other way.

It's great saying sell Maupay, selll Keane, sell Holgate. But we won't turn profit on any of those, simply because the demand for them won't be present because they're awful. Therefore the model now and for the foreseeable has to be find a gem, give him a polish, let him shine, sell him on.

I wouldn't get attached to any player coming through the club in the next 4-5 years, if they're any good they'll go. Hopefully whilst they're with us, they can help get us to the position whereby they won't want to leave, or ideally that we don't need to sell them.
Unfortunately its not as simple as that.

Whats important at face value is that selling for £40mil isnt £10mil profit (for starters we signed him for £33mil) due to book values and FFP guidelines.

As an example, if we sold for £75mil its about £40mil profit. If we sold (for the same fee) in 12months time its about £47mil and in 24 months £54mil approx on the books.

So the longer we hold onto him the more profit can be generated (if we hit the same fee).

For me also its totally pointless to sell our most promising players for only £10mil profit -- should we sell both Onana and Branthwaite for £10mil profit each?

Its far too low to contemplate. We need to hold onto these players for at least 2 more seasons to achieve maximim returns and maximim on pitch benefit.

Also, we have the stadium next season to generate vastly more revenue and a negative FFP year disappearing so it makes more sense to hold onto our best young players.

Not happy about Nkonkou on two counts: 1.7 is not a great return (Unless there's a sell-on clause) but more importantly it's a position of need. He was very raw when he was here, and a good season at the 10th place side in Ligue 2 doesn't tell us much about his progress, he might not have made it in the PL, but I would have liked to see us give him a go in camp this summer. FFS we have no depth there.

Id typically agree with this...

It's a frustrating one because we're missing out on some cash if they sell him for profit, but in fairness when he flopped at Cardiff first half of the season he looked an absolute write off so at least it's some money coming in. I have a hard time believing a guy who wasn't good enough for the Championship 6 months ago has become a top player overnight, it probably says more about Ligue 2. I don't like putting options in loans because they only get triggered if you're giving away a bargain, but after Cardiff probably no one expected him to look like even a 2 million player.

...but this is a good point.

Squad for Next Season

GK: Pickford / Virginia / [Youth]

RB: [New Starter] / Patterson

LB: [New Starter] / Mykolenko

RCB: [New Starter] / Godfrey

LCB: Tarkowski / Branthwaite

DM: Gueye / Warrington

CM: Onana / Garner

AM: Iwobi / Doucoure

RW: Gray / [New Young Player] / Mills

LW: McNeil / [New Young Player]

ST: [New Starter] / Calvert-Lewin / Cannon

————————

Loan Return: Vinagre, Coady

Release: Begovic, Lonergan, Mina, Davies, Coleman (coaching role), Townsend

Sell: Keane, Nkounkou, Maupay, Alli

Loan Out: Simms

Why not use players in their correct and natural positons?

Tarkowski or Branthwaite at LCB? Just play Tarkowski at RCB and Branthwaite at LCB.

CM Onana or Garner? Onana is a defensive midfielder...

Otherwise i dont think youre too far off.

Welcome to the forum Mrs M.

Very impressive stats for El Bilal Toure.

Also rumoured to have actually made an offer for Emiliano Martinez :)

Looks like what Schneiderlin was meant to be.
The Villa keeper? Surely not. Is there another one out there?
