Zat. We HAVE to increase our revenue. The only way we can do that is by the sale of playing assets at the moment.
So if we get Onana for £30m last summer and he plays well enough for someone to pay £40m for him this summer; that's £10m profit. Given the comparatively low matchday revenue, limited sponsorship opportunities due to our position and lack of any other viable income streams at the club currently - the club can't generate that £10m in any other way.
It's great saying sell Maupay, selll Keane, sell Holgate. But we won't turn profit on any of those, simply because the demand for them won't be present because they're awful. Therefore the model now and for the foreseeable has to be find a gem, give him a polish, let him shine, sell him on.
I wouldn't get attached to any player coming through the club in the next 4-5 years, if they're any good they'll go. Hopefully whilst they're with us, they can help get us to the position whereby they won't want to leave, or ideally that we don't need to sell them.
