I think if we can get him at a knock down price and a decent fee for Branthwaite that'd suit us and United and the deal would pay for itself.

Branthwaite is too raw for us even if he is a good player for a CB; Maguire is more limited and United cant use a limited player like him now, but he's perfect for us. He has experience and if we got similar form from him as we did Tarkowski then we're laughing.

I totally get your point that Maguire and Tarks would be more then a decent wall.

I just dont like the idea of using Branthwaite as part of any arrangement.

Maguire would be mad to take a 50% pay cut, which he would have to anyrate.

I get that argument, but really is Branthwaite the right player for us right now? I'm not sure. I think he'd make one or two errors and he'd be pilloried and wilt.

Maguire is a thick skinned sumnobitch and would shrug that right off, as he has for United and England.

We need a warrior not a worrier.
If you think Maguire has shrugged off the criticism he has received (not all of it completely fair IMO) then you have been watching a different Harry Maguire to me. Also we always talk about how we don't have many real assets, JB is arguably one of them. To swap him for a liability (in both the accounting and playing sense) would be mindless.

For me it's about swapping potential for a known quantity. If the deal could be done with United bearing the brunt of his wages and getting a straight swap I'd take that and see it as one of the best deals we could get all summer.

We are in the business of amassing 40 points. Building a team around youth is a luxury we dont have. That said, I'd have retained Mills.

We are talking about the England captain Vs a player who has had a 3/4 of a season in Holland, is sub for the u21s and got a stupid red the last time he played. No guarantees he makes it in the premier league.

I can see a bit of potential in branthwaite but we would be so solid with McGuire playing next to Tarks.

My point was more that if his buyout was £40mil then he would need to perform like a £40mil player for it to even be a conversation.

In which case we get a £40mil level player for a season for a loan fee. Or he flops and we dont discuss it anyway.

Nothing wrong in that...or having Danjuma for a season.

My thinking is actually that if we had him on loan, id use him off the right (right footed), Iling Junior off the left and Gnonto primarily in a more advanced Doucoure role. All of course switching around positions too.

In 12months time we may then be left with McNeil, Iling Junior, Gnonto and Dobbin as others are out of contract (Iwobi/Doucoure) or are sold (Gray).

Id be quite happy with the four of them i think (although we cant predict their success) and we'd just need one more next summer.

So for me, id try for all three :p 2 permanent and a loan :)
😂😂. Your question was which one mate. We ain't getting all 3!!

And if we were in the market for another winger after one of those, it should be a bot more of a cheap potential gem like Antonio Nusa.

This thread makes my eyes bleed… I have no idea how the same people are on here day after day talking about imaginary scenarios, wages, fees etc…. I take my hat off to you guys to be honest as it’s some level of commitment, personally I’m out of here until we make an actual signing.. have fun guys x

I think zats current Everton team only contains one player who is currently at the club lol

Yes, the 'premier league proven' recruitment mantra has served us so well to this point.

….Branthwaite is coming back here to play. He knows the interest in him from some big clubs, if he doesn’t get regular game time I’m sure he’ll push for a move in January. Posters know I like him lots but I actually have doubts he sees Everton as anything but short-term, I think his contract here finishes at the end of the season after this.

Wasnt talking about building a team around him, more so I wouldnt want to potentially throw away a decent prospect.

I'm not really sure he would be taking a paycut as such.
Utd will have to make up the difference for 2 years. They are contractually obligated to ensure he is paid that amount.
Let's say if he stayed at Utd for 2 more years, there is no way he would be able to command anywhere near what he is on, if he moved, or got a new contract.
So it's not entirely unfeasible for someone to say we will give you £100k for 4 years, with utd making up his wages for the first 2 years.

I don't want him though. Yes decent player, and had a bad time at utd. But our defence would just be too slow, unless we went with a 3 at the back
