Very true. A director of football model only works when the team is being built a certain way so that regardless of whether the manager leaves/changes, there shouldn't be a revamp within the playing squad. Pretty much how Brighton found success with De Zerbi replacing Potter.
That's the other advantage of players like Gnonto, James Garner etc- they are genuinely versatile and could play for both good footballing teams or a Dyche team.

Only thing that concerns me with Ekitike and Gnonto rumours are Dyche’s quotes. He’s clearly wanting more experienced players while the club are chasing younger players. Not a huge concern but hope that both management and recruitment team are working closely.

Sensible really, you cant buy a load of only 20 year olds.

Even that famous United side back in the day had loads of older players.

It is sensible in one sense as they're more likely to provide consistency, yet on the other hand the club have tried the previous approach and failed, miserably.

The lower fees and (likely) wages for young talent that may grow and could be sold on for a profit is the primary approach that we need to take.

I think loans and frees is where we will bring in the riskier options, in the sense of demanding higher wages and profile. We definitely do need some older players.

I meant more so the likes of Young and Tarks, if we want experience, it could also be said that along with Pickford, these are probably our best players.

We have a LOT of young players in the squad currently.

None of which have really nailed down a place yet.

Patters, Garner, Onana, Chermo, Branners, McNeil all good ages with a lot of potential.

I wonder if an additional 'back up' goalkeeper is on 'the list' worries me that if anything happens to Pickford then we're either relying on inexperienced youth or an old man who hasn't played a competitive game for ten years

Not wanting to go all Zatara about it (soz mate), but I don't think we do need any more senior players. We already have: Pickford, Young, Coleman, Tarkowski, Gana, Danjuma, Doucoure, Iwobi and DCL who will likely play regularly who are senior pros.

We don't need experience for the wings, as that will likely increase cost of our targets, or diminish talent. A senior CB will likely block Branthwaite. Seeing as we are unlikely to see the back of Godders or Keane, a young, talented CB would be a nice addition there for if Branthwaite is out of form. Don't think we'll be signing any midfielders without sales.

Which leaves upfront. Now, in an ideal world, you would want a proven goalscorer - but they cost money we don't have, which then leaves us scratching around the Che Adams of the world, who is proven crap. So (even though I doubt we are in for him), an Ekitike (I.e. someone with a few more years of senior football than Chermiti) is a much better option for us right now than the former.

Ideally, I wouldn't like any more 'senior pros' coming in at this point!

I think we need at least two experienced and proven (in terms of quality) players in each of the defence and midfield, with one experienced striker.

We have one in Tarkowski at the back (I'm not including Coleman as he shouldn't be first choice) and I would now put Young there too, although it's just.

In the midfield we have Doucouré, Gueye and (errr) Iwobi. Up front is the biggest issue for me - Dom isn't fit enough, and I don't know enough of Danjuma yet.

For me, one solid centre half and a goalscorer would put us in a position where we would be safe.
