Summer transfer window 2023

Zat, people conveniently forget this. 2021/22 we were in the position we were in because of having a shoddy defence and no midfield*, so it was a priority.

Due to what occurred with Richarlison leaving and Dom being injured, we had to bring a forward in too, but the defence and midfield were bigger problems.

Thelwell and co. now are hopefully trying to deal with the glaring deficiency up front, and if they are unable to/don't do that then they deserve criticism this year.

*A rubbish manager, too.
Thats right, now i feel like if we used them the right way:

Pickford
Patterson Tarkowski Branthwaite Young
Garner Onana
Im very happy with that, just not Dyche and his inability to see whats in front of him with Keane/Gana.

Obviously we have McNeil and the backup in Chermiti. Thelwell simply needs to focus on the 3 other attacking players needed and then a left back next summer.

Im positive with the Gnonto and Ekitike links but just gutted we didnt land El Bilal as he'd have scored a hattrick yesterday :(

We could, and should, go to the lower and non-leagues and buy a (few) in-form strikers for next to nowt in the hope of unearthing a gem such a Vardy (of for those of you with a longer memory, Ian Wright). Unfortunately, the Everton way has always been to pay big money for rubbish. We never learn.

…ah, so you now agree that the failure to bring in an effective striker cost us a win yesterday. Phew.

But it is up front where Everton are in desperate need of recruits, with new signing Youssef Chermiti from Sporting Lisbon watching from the stands, although it may be a while until the 19-year-old is seen in a Blues shirt.

Dyche said: "He is a young player and needs to get properly, Premier League fit. He is a talent and we have to develop him.

"If he surprises us and is ready straight away, it is great, but he is here to continue to learn his game."

There may be signings this week, with Everton in talks with sign Wilfried Gnonto, who is refusing to play for Leeds, and retaining an interest in Udinese striker Beto.

However, the loan acquisition of winger Kamaldeen Sulemana looks unlikely as Everton are finding it difficult to agree terms with Southampton.

Dyche added: "I am confident we have to rely within the squad we have. This is what we are at the moment. If we can affect it we will do, but it is not easy."
We are not in the luxurious position of being able to fork out a big chunk (most?) of our transfer budget on Chermiti if he’s not ready to play. Dyche already seems reluctant to give Branthwaite a chance. Are we going to have to watch Maupay miss sitters every week while Chermiti plays for the under 21s?

Is this remotely possible? Doesn’t seem like it would be
See, I keep hearing this. However this is the current situation.

Lukaku has been told by Chelsea he is not wanted
He has said he wants to stay in the Premier League
He has messed it up with Inter and now even Juventus don’t want him
He is a proven premier league player.
He was great at us and arguably played his best ever football.
Chelsea would surly let us have him.
I would offer a loan with obligation to buy next year for like 25/30m and make him our highest paid player, just get him in.

…Dyche never played Maupay last season when we desperately needed points and had no central striker worthy of starting in DCLs continued absence.

It looks like Maupay has got himself fitter this season (which suggests he’s a poor professional not being in shape last season) but after yesterday I suspect Dyche will try Danjuma ahead of him.

Something tells me his ego would still want a champions league/top of the table club though.

Let's have it right, apart from West Brom, every club he's been at he's upset their fanbase

I also think Dyche will be asked about the Maupay abuse, and have to (rightly) condemn it. I know there have always been Dyche haters, but that will be the first but inevitable sign of disharmony between manager and fans if he backs him, says he’s working hard, and then plays him again, which he will.

I’ve woken up today as cross as I was after the game yesterday. We’ve endured 2 miserable years of surviving by the skin of our teeth. Last year was our worst home record in some ridiculous number of years. Our opening 10 fixtures are pretty favourable and we’re in danger of just frittering points away and being in another relegation scrap come the Autumn. We don’t get points for playing well or missing chances. Already the pressure ramps up. Lose at Villa next week and suddenly the Wolves game becomes ‘must win’. This spineless squad has shown us time and time again they’re not capable of producing back to back performances so I have no faith that we can play like we did yesterday against a poor Fulham side and just take our chances.
