DCL/Danjuma weren't fully fit. Cannon, although he did well last season at Preston clearly isn't considered ready yet by Dyche. Going forward if we have other options available then yes, I'd rather they played instead of Maupay but I think yesterday under the circumstances he was the best option which says more about our recruitment than it does about Dyche and Maupay.
Honestly I am convinced that young would have play better in that position than maupay...cannon, whilst not premier league ready, is a much better finisher than maupay and could have done a better job.

I don't disagree, but what he did overall was enough to have won the game aside from his finishing. I doubt Danjuma (fitness wise) or Cannon (ability wise) would have been able to give much more yesterday. The future is different and of course another striker will offer more.
Agree with Danjuma. Cannon may not be good enough but if you don’t try him for a few games you will never know. If he was Preston’s player last year we would be saying maybe we should buy him

Dyche did the same with Simms last year. Scores against Chelsea, high on confidence and then doesn’t play next game

Some kids step up more than you think they will even if it’s for a limited time. If you’re not going to try them at the start of the season with limited options when are you going to start them

We need to show the younger prospects in the lower age groups that there’s a pathway to the first team or they are going to keep leaving like they do now

DCL was given leave of absence for the birth of his child. We've signed new strikers (danjuma - like Richy can play up front) and have been linked to more. We were very unlucky not to win today. We will play a lot worse this year and win.

I'm not saying that we won't necessarily need the relegation thread as I'm not sure the team is good enough to be comfortably safe from relegation. But the bed wetting on here today has been embarrassing.

How close do we have to get to relegation, how poor does the squad have to be and how bad do results have to get before people stop calling demanding better ‘bedwetting’?

Aside from his finishing which we can all agree was terrible, I don't think people can have an issue with Maupay and his graft yesterday. He was working hard and getting into the right positions and the ones which Dyche wants from his forwards so I think it was pretty fair for him to start on that basis. If Maupay had scored one of those chances we would probably all be saying he had a good game. If Danjuma can match that though fitness wise he will be starting as he's probably the better finisher.
Thing is though Danjuma is not a striker he's a wide forward he could probably do a job there but again it's patching up when we need an actual number nine

Not sure how you could argue that considering Cannon didn't look any better than Maupay in pre-season.

Cannon had an injury...but I agree that he was as bad as maupay in the games I have seen. However considering that both were poor in pre season, then just go with the one that finished the last season the best...confidence and all that.

Biggest issue I have with the man, is his insistence on playing “experience”.

Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s done a fine job since coming in, but to constantly select Keane and maupay hurts us. Playing the experienced players has got us in the mess, back under Benitez and Lampard.

Yesterday, I think we win that game if branthwaite and cannon/danjuma start in their places.

Trust the younger players and see what happens - they cannot perform any worse than the experienced lads.
I've never been able to understand why the mistakes of an experienced player are acceptable, whereas one slip by a youngster and they're out in the cold. He must know Maupay is a dreadful finisher, so why not play Cannon? He could have worked just as tirelessly - the minimum expected for any player, surely. If he'd missed the same chances as Maupay, the result would have been no different, but he might have scored. With Cannon, you don't know unless you play him. With Maupay, you've seen enough to be pretty certain, so why repeat the process?

If Danjuma is only deemed fit enough to last 17 mins, then he should not even be making the bench. Risking aggravating injury is partly why we don’t have a striker.

He played 1 game then had an injury and missed the rest, give the lad a chance ffs judging him on one pre season game is just pathetic.

But that's my point? He wasn't good in that one game and was injured so how can people argue that is better than a player who has been fit throughout pre-season and is up to the standard we arguably need fitness wise in the PL to start the game?

Again, proves the point further that this is more about recruitment than Dyche/Maupay but that's also a silly point you're making. Are you arguing that if a player isn't fit enough to play the full 90 then they shouldn't be in a squad? It's perfectly fine for players to be given only 20/30 mins to ease them in.

He was brought in when Fulham were building into the game, with barely enough time to make a difference. 60 mins would have been the time.

But by only giving him 17 mins, it would suggest he is a fair way from full match fitness.

DCL played two lots of 45mins a week ago but was not deemed match fit so didn’t play or make the squad. Could he not have played 20/30mins?
