My point is mate survival/relegation isn't binary.

Leicester have just gone down but would you trade places with them next season if you were guaranteed to win a Title / FA Cup ? I would.

Clubs like Newcastle, Leicester, Villa, West Ham, Brighton all ahead of us currently yet have been Championship sides over the years / been relegated from the PL (Brighton aside).

What has our top flight record gotten us these past 28 years ?

Kenwright has brainwashed our fanbase since the 90's into believing merely being a top flight outfit is success in order to justify his tenure at the club.

Dropping down and running the risk of going into admininstration is not a “ step forward”

The problem is we are very poorly run as a club and business.

The people at the top are incompetent, that doesn’t change if we go down.

It just means that we are heavily relying on the incompetent people to get us out of the mess they created …. Which I’m not confident they can

That is definitely not how it works, its a 3 year cycle, not 6 years, and it would be impossible for us to lose 200m over 3 seasons and get away with it, it was half of that. We arent over anything, we have the room to lose at least 50m this season and probably upwards of 80m. The real holdup seems to be cashflow, as Moshiri is trying to finance the stadium and no longer willing to take ANY losses, FFP allowed or otherwise.

I have read everywhere that we posted losses of 370m over the 3 year period.

Moshiri is trying to claim 170m was covid losses … leaving 200m over 3 years.

We absolutely can lose that amount and have … that’s why Leeds, burnley and co were kicking off about it last season and also why we are under investigation now

He absolutely will. This forum has some crazy valuations on our players. What was Richarlison? Nothing below 75m? Yeah right. 30m would be fantastic.

How would 30m be “ fantastic” please explain.

Young gk with potential signed for 30m

Fulfills his potential, reaches his prime, player prices have inflated through the years , he signs 5 year contract and he’s still worth the same ?

The very best keepers have cost about 80m

Pickford is a top 5 keeper in this league. I'm not saying he's an 80m player but he's absolutely not a 30m player either

For me, 45m and we have a huge decision to make. At 30m we shouldn't even pick up the phone.

45m and Henderson and we would have to take it o reckon

What was the logic at the time?
We were league champions then had a rough season and Arsenal took the top spot. They signed him a few months into the next campaign. I can't remember him winning anything with them...might be wrong. I guess the logic was we needed rebuilding and could command a record fee. It didn't work out though. The wait till the 80s side seemed like a very long time. Would kill for a short 16 year wait now

Thanks mate - always good to gain wisdom from those who lived through those times - if you know your history! ;)

If affordable, would we have Lukaku back, or are we finally done with trying to revive players careers?

It would be like driving a Lada and trading it in for a Ferrari mate.

Bite you hand off.

Wont happen though.

Get the next Lukaku.

Im not trying to be funny here, but why are posters wanting Henderson?

Just because we get a 'free' keeper off United?

Or a young Alan Ball in midfield now…

Yeah… we don’t have to find another keeper… means we can actually use the money to strengthen the other areas rather than us messing around wasting time trying to find a keeper
