i think what you are saying is that players like Harrison and Mc Neil are not out and out goal scorers. Unlike Richarlison who is more a striker playing out wide. Morelos could play that way too. That is why i hope we also buy a wide player with more a striker's instinct. Or someone who play off the main striker not being Maupay lol

It’s about how many goals there are in the team.

In previous seasons you knew that Calvert Lewin and Richarlison would be in double figures before the season even started. You could even say Siggurdson might get a fair few, and Walcott would chip in. Digne would be good for a handful. That wasn’t great by any stretch but it was enough to know we’d probably be mid table.

Now we’ve lost a lot of goal contributors and replaced them with players that don’t score many. Iwobi Mykolenko Onana Gueye Garner, Gray Maupay, they’re not going to get many. So even if Calvert Lewin is fit and gets 10 goals, it’s difficult to see us getting many from anywhere else.

Richarlison’s best season was 13 goals and that was with DCL up top. I fancy McNeil to put numbers like that on the board if we get an actual striker who does things like hold the ball up and lay it into good areas.

Big if though …

Funny the snobbery some everton fans have about signings

Harrison would instantly improve us there is no doubt about that, lets be relastic we wont be getting a prime arjen robben or the likes for the right wing slot
What about buying a player who might develop and sod the prime part of it?

The question about Harrison shouldn't be "does he improve us now?" The question should be "in 3 years will he be at the level we want the team to be at after 3 years of properly rebuilding the squad?" The answer for me is firmly no and as such he shouldn't be considered really at any price but certainly not at a big chunk like 15m.

Which type of players we want is basically up to Dyche his favoured playing style. I'm really curious (and a bit worried) about the choices he is going to make for our playing style.

Imo we should aim to build a solid foundation of players (especially midfielders) who are actually comfortable with the ball and able to keep possession. If we would be able to do that, we will create enough chances from open play and we need players who are good enough in positioning to get them in goalscoring situations. For the long term I think this is our only chance to get somewhere. Garner and Onana might be a good starting point for this style of play. But is it realistic without the funds to aim for these kind of players?

If Dyche is going for a more opportunistic approach we probably need muscle and pace. Good headers who are good in the box and fast wingers for counterattacking. Might be enough to get us to safety but will it be enough to get us moving up the table again?

Are we in a position to think three years ahead? In theory I love the idea of patience and development with young players who will hit their prime in 2027. But we need to stay in the Premiership and for us that means living hand to mouth at the moment. I hope this changes, obviously, but any additions that will help us to safety next season must be the priority

Well no, but I’m just pointing out the facts. Tbh, I thought the only attacking reinforcements we’d be getting would be a low-mid tier striker, so a winger who will chip in with a few goals/assists is a welcome addition in my eyes.
I think we have to go for a creative player. I know people think just spamming strikers at a goal scoring problem fixes it but there are creativity concerns, there are midfield concerns and there are tactical concerns as well.

We should always be thinking big picture and failure to do that is why we are where we are
