The above is how I’d be working towards fixing the squad. We won’t fix it all in one window, but this would be an incredible start.

We’ve actually made some excellent progress with trimming the fat (albeit inadvertently with contracts initially being offered to Davies & Begovic only for them to turn them down! Coleman also offered but still yet to sign)

If we are somehow able to pull off the above, we could then look at fixing either the DM (Gueye) or RW (Gray) position in January.

Then going into summer 2024 in a much healthier position, priority being to do the other (RW or DM) and replace Doucoure (end of contact) and probably look at another CB for Tarkowski.
Heard Warrington's loan wasn't exactly stellar.

This could work for me but if you're putting Simms out on loan again you might as well sell him. He's 22 and will turn 23 this season - he's not a youth player anymore. If we can generate a fair transfer fee for him we should take it. I'd also look to put Mills out on loan (a similar stint to Cannon could prepare him for next season). I'd also argue we need a starting RM as a big priority - it's an area we just haven't fixed in years

Some excellent points in there mate.

RE: Simms, I would hope another successful loan leading to a higher fee in Jan / next summer, but would equally be fine if we got decent money for him this summer.

RE: Mills, another good shout, I agree a loan would work well for him.

RE: the RW position; yes, I earmarked that for Jan / next summer, just because I feel we have more pressing concerns to address this summer. Gray & a young prospect & Iwobi could “do a job” between them until then IMO, whereas we are desperate in the other positions.

I wish I had the belief the bookies do....
Lets just watch how the teams on this list fare compared to us in the transfer market. Can anyone buy a difference maker?

Premier League relegation odds (via Sky Bet)

  • Luton Town - 2/5
  • Sheffield United - 10/11
  • Bournemouth - 2/1
  • Burnley - 9/4
  • Nottingham Forest - 5/2
  • Everton - 10/3
  • Fulham - 10/3
  • Brentford - 9/2
  • Wolves 5/1

It's so depressing how much money we are paying to mediocre or non-playing personnel. To be honest, I'd forgotten about Gomes, Gbamin and Alli who, between them, are probably pulling down close to £300k a week. We're a shambles.
Yeah those three are the biggest concern. I went into this summer thinking Gbamin was out of contract…and everyone involved in the Dele transfer should be blasted into the sun. Gomes by all accounts had a successful season so we might be able to get out from that one for the final season. The other two we’ll be heavily, heavily subsidizing and honestly I’m not even sure where Dele will be wanted unless the Saudis see him as a decent target.

Overall the wage bill is in much better shape. I’m not worried about the higher earners who are have been worth their pay in keeping us afloat (ie Pickford, Tarkowski, Doucoure)

Obviously I would never bet against us but those odds offer unreal value for the neutral.

Played a lot of football which is the main thing
Read their fan Facebook page over the season, they were pleased enough with him but nothing to suggest he's anywhere near ready for the Prem. When asked who they'd like back on loan about 60 % mentioned him,so as I said hardly stellar. Season in the Championship is more realistic.
