Summer transfer window 2023

It’s also confusing because whenever we look likely to be relegated, lots of shouts of “our players will get eaten alive in the Championship,” like its a Mexican prison. But yet new players need a free pass season to get used to the PL.

And baffling when we send young wet behind the ears strikers to the Championship to get them ready for the PL, but heaven forbid we actually buy a Championship striker because they won’t be able to play in the PL.

No wonder Kev gets so confused that he just buys no-one.
'No wonder Kev gets so confused that he just buys no-one.' This is great!

Just listened to the Bobble's podcast. Christ I feel depressed now.

Not remotely close to signing anyone, not in discussions for anyone. Demari Gray doesn't want to go to Saudi because he has a kid in the Midlands. He keeps saying the window is a 'bloodbath' and teams without money are really struggling to get players.

Sounds like it is going to be a disaster for us tbh.
Important to remember that while he is well sourced and has connections in the club, Bobble isn't in the building, so to some extent he doesn't know what he doesn't know when it comes to transfers etc.

The club will know who he is (it's no secret) and who he gets his information from, and there will be strict instructions regarding more sensitive matters like transfer negotiations that the club strictly want to keep confidential. So him not knowing about negotiations (or not being allowed to say) is not the same as saying they aren't happening.

As I recall he painted a fairly bleak picture most of last summer and we got 8 in through the door, quite a few of which arrived without much being said beforehand by him or anyone else.

What does this even mean? Did he elaborate on this at all because it makes absolutely no sense?
Yeah. He said there are loads of clubs like us who are struggling financially and not enough players available within this budget to go around, therefore making it difficult for deals to get done.

There are free agents and loans though so this really isn’t a good enough excuse. If this is the line that the club are feeding out then it’s a disgrace.

You're not wrong mate. Him and his co-host tried to end it on a positive note by saying it's still early in the window, but let's be fair, there was jotting positive to what was being said.

Seen lots of talk about how we're falling behind in the transfer market already so wanted to have a look.

13 Clubs have already made at least 1 signing
7 Clubs have sold at least 1 player

8 Clubs have a negative net spend
6 Clubs have a positive net spend

Clubs with no signings: Arsenal, Everton, Fulham, Man Utd, West Ham & Wolves
Brentford beat us to the free signing of Romeo Beckham!
SORT IT OUT THELWELL! (Shakes fist)

Yeah but I guess he would argue that we don't want to get into bidding wars for these players with wages and signing on fees etc that end up a burden.

Well that’s just tough, are we meant to never try and sign a player ever again because someone else might bid for them too? What he’s saying is what he’s been fed from the club and it’s absolute drivel and I’m not buying it. I’ve never heard a worse excuse in my entire life.

On top of spending over 600 mil last season chelsea are still buying young brazilian talented players with surprisingly no work permit issues for 15-20 mil each. They are spending absurd amounts of money on their youth team, players they will just loan out for 2-3 seasons. This is absurd. We can’t even spend 10 mil to get a first team player. The system is a joke.
Alot of these players will probably end up on loan to Strasbourg who the have just bought

….watched Gyokeres quite a bit last season because of our reported interest & I genuinely think he’ll struggle in the top flight. He’s hard working and genuine but he lacks the raw physicality and quality to trouble top flight defenders.

For the monies being quoted there has to be much better options abroad than the Coventry City lad.

i really hope the links to Gyokeres are wide of the mark.
Genuine question, is Gyokeres really any better than Iheanacho? I think Iheanacho would scores loads in the Championship.

I know I rant sometimes about just shopping in the relagation window, but if we could get him for around 10m it would be good business and probably safer than spending close to 20 on Gyokeres.

For me Iheanacho would be the safer bet. Need to watch our position re AFCON though especially as we’ve been linked to other African players like Dia or Ndiaye.

and every ( past two ) we’ve signed NO striker forgive us mate, but didn’t you know we’re a mess of the pitch and it’s wrong as dyche is in the wilderness

it’s ok tho lads we make signings in january
when we’re rooted
So it’s either make signings in June or January?

If only there was some middle ground!! Perhaps a window, of sorts, that would apply throughout the summer, to enable us to make transfers. Probably a catchy name for it, but can’t think of one off the top of my head.
