Summer transfer window 2023

Oh look
Our net spending is 15th in the table and we’re probably about the 15th best team in the league.

Amazing how Arsenal went from finishing outside European positions to finishing second whilst outspending the entire league… must mean Arteta is a genius? Same with West Ham and Villa, just how did they do it???

Well done to Brighton though, fair play.
Villa was looking at relegation when Slippy was in charge. I wouldn't discount the job the manager does to help a team at least justify their position in the league based on their net spend

Given that we need players who will make an instant impact and keep us up, this would make sense on a 2 year deal. He’s got a touch of class that our other strikers bar DCL don’t have. Probably on a big wage but that’s mitigated by him coming in cheap I suppose.
I agree, he would be an ideal signing for lots of clubs on a two year deal but I expect there is absolutely zero chance of him agreeing to a two year deal with any club, it will be three year imo

Rodrigo makes sense in our position though, we need a mixture of experience and youth. If we could couple it with a younger target man and or Gnoto or another forward who can play across it's a nice balance of forwards.

Yup it sucks and I was hoping for better than this for this summer. But it’s looking again like the budget is zero and in the short term swapping Simms for Rodrigo makes sense.

If the club has creamed off the Gordon and Kean sales to pay the bills it’s an admission the only target football wise is to stay in the PL while the ground is built. And in the short term Rodrigo does that more than the equivalent spent on younger players.
Also think he can do the dacoure role for us, still need a dcl player who can lead the line. Is why i even understand djanjuma links again, even tho i would prefer another but if on loan both give us cover in two positions

Mate I’m not knocking it, under Koeman we spent like a European team and got into Europe so good for you for doing the same. What I’m sick of is people saying we’ve spent millions when over the last 5 years we’ve spent lower than almost everyone.

I think the fact slippy had you in a relegation battle is more down to him being an abysmal manager and a top prick destroying your dressing room. Emery has come in and got you where you should be on spend, rather than saying he’s working miracles like De Zerbi did.

Can't feel enthusiastic about the links with Danjuma. He turned his back on us when we were desperate for him to sign as he was the attacker we thought we had in the bag at the end of the transfer window - he would have realised how potentially damaging that was to us. He didn't want to come then so evidently he himself is not enthusiastic about the club. Also rumours he fell out with teammates at Villareal. And Spurs have looked at him and decided he isn't at the level required - so you can only assume that he isn't that good.
Surely Everton can't sign Danjuma after him walking in Jan, that should be a red line crossed that he can never come back from

Yeah, we have to be pragmatic, nothing other than staying in the league matters, and if we got Rodrigo and Danjuma there's a lot of versatility as well as a bit of quality for very little outlay. Doesn't help us long-term, but ultimately nothing helps us long-term more than staying in the league does.

Well my source would be in previous years the PL accepted the accounts mate, that showed deductions taking us below £105m.

What?!?!? We’ve literally been referred to an independent panel and had to run every signing by the Premier League for the past two years??!?

Basically you don’t have a source and are just wishfully thinking. That’s cool, just say that then.

Cant tell if Mike is joking here about widely reported information ?!

It’s based on a rolling 3 years, we were referred because we lost £372m over 3 years. It seemed like you were trying to say after deductions we actually lost under £105m over that period, which would just be outright wrong.

Apologies, I probably wasn't very clear.

What I am saying is:
1) There are deductions allowed to the 372m figure. Think of it as a gross figure, whereas it is a net figure that is taken.
2) In years prior to this one, the PL had accepted deductions to some of the same year's of accounts that had shown under £105m net.

It is not a comment about the latest set of accounts, as clearly that is under investigation, so outside of a handful of lawyers, I doubt anybody could make comment.

Catcher spot on again. Mike are you joking?

Signing Rodrigo is just walking a well known path, we need to move away from this model of old players on big wages, it is this that has us where we are.

Something stinks though about our restrictions.
Exactly. Something inevitable but depressing about the Rodrigo situation. Sign him and this thread will have the same tone next year. Time to break the cycle

All media look for the clickbait headline. Chelsea will be spoken about for spending half a billion in the last year albeit they have sold over 200k worth in the last week. It's like transfer fees, you always get quoted the highest price with all addons included. Bellingham to Madrid, Sky saying it was 115m and a record for a British player yet Dortmund confirmed it was 88.5m plus add-ons.
