Not sure they are being particularly proactive, auctioning off your best players and buying inferior ones is a forced consequence of going down. Selling Maddison for only 40m then spending almost half of it on Winks and Coady, I'm not thrilled with Everton right now but I'm not jealous of that!

I like Traore. We’ll be playing on the counter plenty and while his stats aren’t the best he’s also been dealing with a death of quality strikers to actually get on the end of things. Jimenez and then a 58 year old Costa aren’t great. Solve our striker problem and get him on a free if we could.

I don't *want* a 38 year old on our right wing, I'd much prefer us to go out and sign an actual right winger with a bit of resale value (a la Onana). But the squad is thin and will only get thinner with sales, and finances are tight and will be until we're in Bramley Moore. On a free, it makes sense; there aren't many others in the free transfer market that would improve the squad. Villa fans generally still very positive about his performances last year, I'm sure @Villa_Fan will have an interesting take

I didn't say drop Doucoure by the way, Doucoure currently one of the first names on the team sheet. I also don't *know* its Young by the way, it just makes a lot of sense and fits with what @Tofeenut so cryptically shared. Getting annoyed at Young signing would be like getting annoyed at when Begovic signed - who's arsed, he's a decent squad player on the cheap

He shocked me last season with how good he was. He kept Cash out of the team and started (I think) 28 games. Very clever f/b but obviously lacks a little pace but reads the game really well and is a good passer of the ball. I read that Luton is in discussion with him. He has another season in him at PL level I think and would be an excellent signing for Luton given their lack of experience and his ridiculous amount of top level experience

Not too fussed about missing out on this. Big, big fee for a 25 year old who hasn't proved anything above the Championship, especially with one year on his contract. Coventry have played a blinder.

Gomes and Gbamin have not returned to preseason training this week. some speculation that; Lille, Celta Vigo and Fenerbache want Gomes, nothing on Gbamin.

Presume they have both had permission to not return and find themselves new clubs, but it probably means they will only be leaving on loan, again.

Where is that from ? I mean they have not been on any training video but I haven't seen Mykolenko or Gana either

The only issue with that is if he come here and played regularly, the crowd would have better possession stats than the team
