Summer transfer window 2023

Elanga is a tough one. Borges is availible who will be a better player but would be more expensive and isn't as good right now which we half need. Problem with Elanga is he's pants and also a left winger. Would it kill us to buy a right winger for a change?

So sign someone worse than the player we want to sign who you say is rubbish in the first instance. Wow. Such a low bar..

Elanga has played more games at RW than LW over the past 2 seasons.

Should have well tried for him

I have never seen him play but this is exactly the type of player we should be in the mix for.

Young, hungry, and affordable.
There is very little downside to these deals as long as they don’t completely flop.

Lookman , Vlasic and even that Nigerian Henry all were similar deals and we didn’t lose money on any of them

If one makes it like Coleman has then great we even made money on nkouno or however you spell his name and he could have made more if we didn’t have an obligation to buy inserted.

Also holgate , stones , DCL all would or have gone for more than we have paid

Thing is those deals were all relatively cheap. Lookman 9m, vlasic 8m, Onyekuru 7m, coleman 50k Nkounkou 500k.

Apart for coleman they all flopped here and we could move them on at a profit because of the age and price we paid for them.

But 25m for a player? He has to be a success to make any money on him.

Not sure I agree with the Thewell bashing . We’ve no idea what finances he has to work with although looking from the outside in there’s very little there . Elanga the current cause for criticism. We got Jimmy G last season and I think we may have a really good player on our hands . No one can tell whether Elanga will work out . It may be a case he needs regular football . He may bomb .. who knows but Jesus give the boy a chance . 8/10 million even if he bombs still isn’t the biggest of risks . We need an additional striker though .
It is a huge embarrassment. Every other league bar the new Saudi league is essentially now a feeder league for the PL. outside a handful of clubs in those leagues they are pretty much all broke. You are telling me for £10m you can’t find better than Anthony Elanga. It reflects that we have no scouting network

But even if he turns out average … you’d be able to sell him for 15m at a minimum.

10m loss wouldn’t be ideal but you wouldn’t have scenarios like Morgan, siggy, delph, bolasie, walcott, tuson, Williams , Mina, and what looks likely with iwobi, gbamin and gomes , where we are likely to recoup 2m from over 200m in paid transfer fees.

There is a risk with every signing but these types of signings are what we should be looking at.

Also the fees paid for lookman and co don’t exist anymore really because now championship players are going for 20m.

Meaning championship clubs can pay 15m for players … which means we will always have the opportunity to sell them as long as we don’t give them 100k a week contracts

Would you rather we had a brand new DoF with a brand new list every window?

Because tbh that’s not worked out all that well for us….

The DOF model is pointless for us because we don’t have a specific style of play and when we are bringing in a new manager we don’t look at them and find one that aligns with our existing footballing philosophy. We just ricochet from one manager to another, all with differing styles, we allow the managers to sign players they like, then we sack the managers every season and that’s why we have this Frankenstein’s monster of a squad.

I like Scott and think he will turn out to be a good player but you are absolutely right.

That's why the Elanga deal at less than £10m makes great sense.

Trust me. Alex Scott won't turn out average. He will be a £50 million player minimum at some stage of his career.

So agree with you, we should definitely be looking at this.

Trouble is, Bristol City won't accept 25mil over 10 years of installments..
