Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

….do we know how centrally involved he was with recruitment at West Ham? Many clubs employ a DOF model these days that by-passes the Manager to varying degrees. I expect he’ll have to sign players off this summer more than identify targets.

Do we know ( definitively) how much influence he had in the Wham signings?

I seem to recall that a DoF was appointed without his agreement / consultation.

The thing is lads you can't on the one hand give him credit for signing Bowen and then on the other day we'll it was down to the DOF for all the other duds.

I have no idea which players Moyes was influential in signing during his time at Wham.

However a DoF was appointed in July 2023 without Moyes agreement so it's reasonable to infer that signings prior to then were down to Moyes and those after that date may not have been.

I'm not intimately familiar with Wham but wasn't Steiden replaced as DoF by Sullivan's son Jack?

Kudus, Pacqueta, Soucek? wasn't Moyes fault Zouma went off the deep end. Also a bit rich expecting them to absorb losing Rice.

And don't forget Bowen.

But that's why I said all considered.

I did think he did well at West Ham, but when their fans told me he spent half a billion quid and I went and checked all the signings - I changed my mind.

Lennon Miller at Motherwell. Had recent injury but my mates arl man is a Motherwell fan (and looks like Rab C Nesbitt) and is adamant he will playing in Prem within 2 years, raves about him. Kind of players we should be looking at for a decent enough fee. I know we’ve had brief links in the past.
Yeah seen a few on here talk about him, is talent up there also would get at a far better price than the championship

"So I make that a surprisingly large number of 19 players signed by Moyes. Signing 19 players does not seem to fairly fit the narrative of dithering Dave to me.

Out of these 19 recruits only Hugill and Vlasic stand out as obvious clear flops.
Mainly because of injury concerns it is difficult to make proper assessment of Scamacca and Cornet.
Similarly it is still early days with Ingsbut he is certainly not the worst forward West Ham have ever signed.

So I make that Moyes has overseen 14 proven solid recruitment out of 19 transactions, with the jury out on 3 recruits. Far in excess of the 50% Gold had previously hoped for in previous managerial regimes.

The more I think about it, the more I find it increasingly difficult to identify a more successful transfer record for a West ham manager. Redknapp was the most famous wheeler and dealer but even he will admit to signing as many flops as successes. For every Di Canio you could set aside a Marco Boogers.

I think it is time to set the Moyes transfer record straight.

….was thinking exactly the same, I’d imagine he’s very particular and won’t sign something off until he’s certain.

I was told from somebody directly involved many years ago about him having a meeting with his recruitment team. He asked who is the most talented unknown youngster in the country and how much would it cost to buy him. He was told Southampton have a young lad called Gareth Bale but it would cost £1m to get him. Moyes said it was too much.

I look back at that now and think what might have been but he clearly has strict criteria and sticks to it.

One thing that strikes me about Moyes since he came is he seems far less conservative, risk adverse and confident overall since his first spell with us.

What about the French CB for 30mil who I think is out on loan Ageard or something, ward prowse for 30mil
Just clicked the links that’s quite old and hasn’t got a his last year or so on there. Personally I think his recruitment was really bang average for what he spent. Benrahma was 25mil mavrpanos was 20mil

….you’d think it’ll make things very difficult for them going forward. As we know, it’s difficult shifting ordinary players on extraordinary contracts and they look in a right mess.
I used to go to Comedy clubs to satisfy my need for laughs, but now I just sit at home watching & wondering how Andre Onana is a goalkeeper.

Thanks for sharing.

Fair play to the writer, registered blind.

It's a dated article. Would he have had the same view the season after, when West Ham's form from December to Moyes leaving was 17th?

As I say, I look over all his transfers at West Ham and I wouldn't want 500m spending here, as it was spent there.
