Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Not saying it can’t be improved on. It’s about how we prioritise what funds we have. For me if we went out and spent most of our funds on forward players I’d be ok with that for the first window as I think that’s the more pressing requirement at the moment. Sort the fullbacks next season absolutely. Look if there’s a load of money to go round and we can do it all in one window then perfect.

I just doubt we’ll see that much attacking improvement by having great fullbacks if we still have Doucoure Harrison Lindstrom as the three behind Beto. That area needs the priority attention in my view.
I mean there's no doubt really that every single position can be improved on, including our very best players, but of course that isn't going to happen. I think full backs are very high on the list of areas to improve personally - O'Brien has done well but he isn't a natural full back and it's a big ask for him to keep up a high level there in the long term. If he's going to be 3rd choice centre half it's a big problem too, because you're potentially one injury from losing your first choice players in 2 positions.

Obviously the club will have their own priorities and do things however they see fit, but i'll be really disappointed if we go into next season with the same full back options as we have now - about 5 years after it first becoming an issue.

Only on an Everton forum could we have one of the worst attacks in the league, and one of the better defences, and we’ve got a discussion on why two fullbacks are a priority.

Multiple players in attacking wide positions, creative midfielders, number 10s and central strikers, are far more important for us than upgrading OBrien and Mykolenko.

I watched us for years where our sole method of playing was to create an overload down the left so that Baines and then Digne following him could whip a cross in. We won nothing and they were probably as good as it got in terms of delivery from attacking full backs.

City are playing CBs at full back. Arsenal are playing CBs at fullback. Even Liverpool are getting fed up with the gaps Alexander Arnold leaves.

If we go out this summer and buy two top class attacking fullbacks and don’t address the attacking and midfield options and then try and play some game based on springing overlapping attacking fullbacks I’ll be absolutely livid with the recruitment team.
It's not the eighties, SD, fullbacks are a large part of most teams attacking nowadays.

Some top teams.

City’s first 11 has Gvardiol and Akanji/Ake at full back

Arsenal have Calafiori/Timber and Ben White

They’re all good on the ball of course and can all keep possession but they’re not basing their games around fullbacks getting to the byline on the overlap and crossing it in. They’re prioritising defensive solidity and set piece strength first.

We’re a bottom half premier league team with some of the worst attacking options in the league (Ndiaye aside). If we only have a certain amount of money to spend I want to see reinforcements prioritised there.

If we have a load of money and can fix every position we want to then great, but every man and his dog can see we are crying out for reinforcements in attack. Improving the fullbacks use of the ball would help a bit towards this sure but if we get on transition next season and it’s Doucoure playing it to Beto or Lindstrom then I don’t care who’s playing fullback at that point.

Don't sign Sean Longstaff. Nice one
Depends price and wage if not whst we havr did in past with high oriced deals holgate keane ect. I would take him
According to the bobble Moyes see’s him
As a wide player and will stay on the left next season
I just look at bowen might be out wide but would get freedom to cut inside. Interested see what he thinks with mcneil should be atleast 2/3 new wide players come in

It's 2025 though, defence and attack aren't two completely separate things, they all work together. Having full backs who aren't comfortable on the ball and offer nothing in the final third has a big impact on your attacking play. The defence isn't bad but it's not amazing, we kept a fair few clean sheets when playing with 10 men behind the ball and clearing our lines ASAP but since playing more football and trying to actually score ourselves we've found that it's had an effect on how many goals we concede. No clean sheet in 6 now, it's not like we have an impenetrable defence that can't be improved on.
