Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

When did we play wing backs this season ?
Since Moyes has come in Lindstrom has been playing further up the field when we have the ball on the right but when the team is without the ball he has been moving into more of a RB role with O'Brien tucking in more centrally so you could say Lindstrom has been a sort of hybrid wing back of sorts

The flanks in general, it's genuine League Two standard if we consider O'Brien will ultimately end up at centre back - maybe even next season alongside Tarkowski - and Ndiaye is clearly much more effective in the middle.

Mykolenko and McNeil on the left, Young/Coleman/Patterson & Harrison/Lindstrom on the right - that's disgusting.
I don't think it's clear at all. He might be, but he's done very well out wide and we've barely seen him centrally.

Only on an Everton forum could we have one of the worst attacks in the league, and one of the better defences, and we’ve got a discussion on why two fullbacks are a priority.

Multiple players in attacking wide positions, creative midfielders, number 10s and central strikers, are far more important for us than upgrading OBrien and Mykolenko.

I watched us for years where our sole method of playing was to create an overload down the left so that Baines and then Digne following him could whip a cross in. We won nothing and they were probably as good as it got in terms of delivery from attacking full backs.

City are playing CBs at full back. Arsenal are playing CBs at fullback. Even Liverpool are getting fed up with the gaps Alexander Arnold leaves.

If we go out this summer and buy two top class attacking fullbacks and don’t address the attacking and midfield options and then try and play some game based on springing overlapping attacking fullbacks I’ll be absolutely livid with the recruitment team.

Is a postion that needs to be looked like others like rw ect. Agree about saying top class attacking fb but we can certainly go out and imorove on those areas. Could have just obrien and dixon for rb this summer, have said here before i would be looking at kwp on a free from southampton

Need to resolve the Patterson situation and decide where the club sees OBrien playing next season, which probably hinges on the Branthwaite situation.

Most likely scenario in my view is that Branthwaite and Tarkowski carry on in the middle for another year. Moyes keeps OBrien at right back. Patterson stays as reserve right back. Keane goes and we get a new CB in to replace him. We buy a new left back o compete with Milo (perhaps a utility player that can cover along the back)

The rest of the money goes on the forward positions.

It's 2025 though, defence and attack aren't two completely separate things, they all work together. Having full backs who aren't comfortable on the ball and offer nothing in the final third has a big impact on your attacking play. The defence isn't bad but it's not amazing, we kept a fair few clean sheets when playing with 10 men behind the ball and clearing our lines ASAP but since playing more football and trying to actually score ourselves we've found that it's had an effect on how many goals we concede. No clean sheet in 6 now, it's not like we have an impenetrable defence that can't be improved on.

Dont think so imo i think patterson will be gone i do feel will be an area moyes will look to improve on. Doesnt have to be big moneu is plenty of players at fb who will help improve us.

…I think they’d like to move Patterson on but I doubt there’d be many takers given his salary and contract situation. A loan might be the best we can do to at least get part of his salary off the books.

Why don't we try to play him right mid?

Pace, crossing ability and can slot in at right back when JOB bombs forward.

Come on Davie, read this post.

Not saying it can’t be improved on. It’s about how we prioritise what funds we have. For me if we went out and spent most of our funds on forward players I’d be ok with that for the first window as I think that’s the more pressing requirement at the moment. Sort the fullbacks next season absolutely. Look if there’s a load of money to go round and we can do it all in one window then perfect.

I just doubt we’ll see that much attacking improvement by having great fullbacks if we still have Doucoure Harrison Lindstrom as the three behind Beto. That area needs the priority attention in my view.

No beef with Cherki..
