I think Carlo will look at our squad of players and choose 11 starters and 7 subs between Pickford, Keane, Allan, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin, Sigs, Walcott, Digne, Mina, Doucoure, Iwobi, James, Bernard, Gomes, Coleman, Davies, Kean, Branthwaite, Baningime, Gordon, Lossl, Nkoundkou, Bolassi.

I’d be very surprised if at least one of Allan or Doucoure don’t start. Not convinced James will.

Conceivably, Carlo will start with Gylfi in some sort of advanced role, as if to say, "Go on then, impress me". When, almost inevitably, no impressing gets done, he can sub Gylfi with James, so James will get the confidence of looking good on debut, not having to do that much to be an improvement.

Playing a Pirlo'esque Milan role (in no way comparing him to Pirlo and think he won't be good enough there before people start) with Allan and Doucoure winning the ball in front of him, Gomes taking over when he gets his fitness up.

Probably won't happen but it looks like thats more of his role now rather than in attacking positions where he was completely anonymous.
