He seemed to have done well up in Scotland, thing is if the season doesnt start well he could be thrown to the wolves, seems a better fit than Coleman though
All joking aside I think he will be given the chance to rebuild.. Every one i talk too is for the first time in years looking forward.

But like everything he has to get results but even a spend of 5 million is a lot in league 1.

Isnt the budget around £1/2m for teams in that division? A lot of players are short term contracts or freebies I think so the attraction of playing at the SOL should swing it in Sunderlands favour, though being the big fish is going to be an incentive to a lot of teams there

Aye and i agree. While we've been run like a non league outfit for years the facilities we have are top drawer.

We have to sort the home form out and make sure the sol becomes a place where teams don't want to come. People are saying around 17k season tickets sold this season. So crowds should maybe start at around the 25k mark

I'm really looking forward to it. New era and all that. It's what football fans always do. There is always next season and good times around the corner, hopefully

You may well be right mate. The new owner, os at least one of them, was on Talksport this week. Seemed to front up to all that was asked of him.

But lets face it, they may be technically debt free, but the chances of actual investment from the new lot seems unlikely. Reckon its an all in bet on promotion this season, which coincides with parachute money evaporating.

That's exactly it. If they do not come up next season - and I don't fancy their chances at all - the club will lose what, £90m or whatever it is of the parachute payments. Those chancers who have just come in won't be able to find that sort of wedge, so they'll need to start selling things quickly. Rumour has it that Newcastle are circling on their training and development facilities which admittedly are pretty good.

There's no money for transfers and this new manager has managed at a level - at best - our non-League National One or whatever it is called.

Factor in Jack Rodwell's £70k a week - among others - and that's a lot of pressure.

Thankfully, we are only two years away from this actually being the overall reality.

The Villa meltdown and promotion gamble is EXACTLY what these new frauds at Sunderland are attempting.

My thoughts exactly when I heard about Villa today. This Sunderland lot, seemingly, have enough cash to have one stab at getting up.

They are absolutely all-in on immediate promotion, while also minimising investment in the short term (no CEO for example).

A tough start to the season and they are totally finished.

Havnt a clue what the state of their team/squad is now, come to that, who the manager is neither.

But, having witnessed Div 3 football a while back, sides will effing love putting one over Sunderland. And ironically, the away support they will probably take with them will also be effing loved by the self same clubs!

And those clubs have momentum, too, structures in place and a culture suited to football at that level. Sunderland have closed half their ground so can't even rely on home crowds to intimidate 'smaller' teams.

Absolutely mad how both Villa and Sunderland can have found themselves in such a mess. However not such a shock that both have had O'Neill in recent years, another destroyer of clubs. Leicester also nearly went to the wall after him and were bailed out by Lineker / Heskey / Walker's. How he ended up on our shortlist is terrifying.

Not at all. Promotion should be the aim, and in truth I think we will get it. but we will not be in a mess without it. Cutting our cloth and all that. As I can't see who you are responding to I'll guess at the loser who thinks he knows everything about us, hates everything about us and really has a sad life and is mouthing off again. The bliss of the ignore feature.

I said in one of the other threads,it wont surprise me to see a few more clubs in the same situation in the next couple of years, clubs dropping have players on big contracts, then buy more players to get back up,if they do succeed, and Villa are evidence that the plan can fail, your then left with half a squad that arent good enough for PL but you csnt shift,so then your forking out more money in the hope you can cling on to your status, its a vicious circle and a lot of clubs would be better yo yoing between the prem and championship and spending as little as possible inbetween

I was responding to him, yeah.

Havnt really got a dog in this fight mate, arsed either way if I am honest. Just some stuff Mickey Gray (?) was banging on about the other day reminded me of Villa's news.
