I said in one of the other threads,it wont surprise me to see a few more clubs in the same situation in the next couple of years, clubs dropping have players on big contracts, then buy more players to get back up,if they do succeed, and Villa are evidence that the plan can fail, your then left with half a squad that arent good enough for PL but you csnt shift,so then your forking out more money in the hope you can cling on to your status, its a vicious circle and a lot of clubs would be better yo yoing between the prem and championship and spending as little as possible inbetween
Think we will use youth a lot next season. The youth teams are winning a fair bit and we have a decent enough academy. Issue is when in the top flight and even the championship clubs are so scared they don't maybe give youth a chance to develop. We have some decent young kids and i think we will use them next season to hopefully good affect

I was responding to him, yeah.

Havnt really got a dog in this fight mate, arsed either way if I am honest. Just some stuff Mickey Gray (?) was banging on about the other day reminded me of Villa's news.
Gray has been coming out with some right rubbish and he seems to have a chip on his shoulder for some reason.

We are in a good position off the field, but we still have to get results. The new boss has a decent record but who knows if he can manage in England. I'm pleased we've not gone for the old faces and trying something new.

I'll be disappointed if we don't go up but money wise we are in a very healthy position and hopefully mistakes from the past won't be repeated

In the division your in now it doesnt need a great deal of money spent to reach promotion, most clubs survive on a shoe string, its if promotion is achieved then fans will expect money to be spent, rather take a couple of seasons building than blow it all like Villa tried, even if they had gone up it would have taken a heap of cash to just cling on to that status, look how much Sunderland spent in the 10 years on just transfers alone, add in wages, agent fees, replacing managers and its an absolute fortune to stand still

Aye, i don't think we will spend much. The new owners have already said we don't have big money to spend and like it was years ago we need match day income more than ever. By accounts we now have almost 19,000 season tickets so that has to help with the coffers

Next season, yeah.

Then, income wise, you are in same boat as *random Div 3 club*, plus gate money. That was the gist of Grays point.

Unless the new owners have a few bob, which I have no idea about. But I know the main bloke sold a non league club to get in bed with you.

Eastleigh

I think whatever happens the club will hopefully never get into the financial mess of the past. We as fans just have to understand there is not quick fix

The parachute payment and gate money will nake a lot of difference at that level, the likes of Fleetwood and Rochdale could be kept going for a while with £1m,its more the expectation when you do get promoted, thats why I think it should be looked at as a long term project, scour the country looking for the best youngsters and show that they can get 1st team places at a young age,use the club as a showcase for them

And at the end of the day, it might actually be exciting for a change. Thank god, we have only had brushes with a melt down, but watching a team competing at the top the table must trump the trauma of the last few seasons.

Not at all. Promotion should be the aim, and in truth I think we will get it. but we will not be in a mess without it. Cutting our cloth and all that. As I can't see who you are responding to I'll guess at the loser who thinks he knows everything about us, hates everything about us and really has a sad life and is mouthing off again. The bliss of the ignore feature.

I think you mean here 'accurately predicted Sunderland would get relegated and exposed Sunderland fans as disgusting spineless headpatters apart from @Safc-mark-91 '.

And of this, I am of course guilty.

Exactly mate. Both of these clubs are now completely exhausted, finished. There really is no floor for them.

And in all honesty, that could have been us, but our fanbase has enough about it to stand up and be counted. Look how Allardyce was rightly rejected.

I can quite easily see Swansea and WBA following the same route,Swanseas wages to income is way out of proportion and Wba with Chinese owners could well struggle

Interesting bit in Private Eye about one of the new Sunderland owners. Supposed to be a complete blagger, puts everything on the company expenses account and abuses staff who even put their tube travel for work through.

Sounds a real man-of-the-people.
