Bittersweet result for us on Saturday. From the position we were in, to lose a goal and then collapse like we did was comical. Lost 2 goals in less than 5 minutes, only to peg them back once more! Crazy 15 minutes, disappointed we lost concentration but happy we at least showed a bit of fight to come back again. Well done McGeady - That's one way of shutting the crowd up. Actually think we looked the more likely to win it at the end.
Blatantly obvious we need a striker as Vaughan just isn't the answer. (I'd be interested to hear the Everton perspective on him, burst on the scene with his goal at 16 but has dropped down the divisions).
Lad tries his best, gives 100% but doesn't offer us much. Not blessed with pace, struggles to hold the ball up and simply doesn't score enough. I had hoped when he broke his duck a few weeks back, he'd go on to grab a few but it hasn't happened.
We've certainly got other problems, like Cattermole who has looked a shadow of his former self. Has regressed to such a level, he needs taking out the team (In my view). Our lad Ndong is having to do the running for 2 players with Cattermole struggling to get around the pitch. Unfortunately, he's tied down on a long term contract...Again bad decision from the club. Cattermole was a huge player for us....5 years ago! Injuries, lack of fitness and form have played their part and he looks on his way out, quite sad to watch mediocre Championship players running past him with ease.
We're leaking goals at an alarming rate and We're in a relegation battle. So depressing to see my club in this mess. Short needs to go, but it simply won't happen. As for Grayson, I'm not calling for his head yet. It should be reiterated, he had buttons to work with I'm terms of £££ and inherited a squad of mercenaries on long term contracts and a general complete mess of a team. So, I understand he's not a miracle man but he hasn't inspired me with his naive tactical instructions and lack of a plan B. I'm losing faith, my only argument not to sack him is realistically - Who could come in and do better? Who would want to? Given our current plight on and off the pitch? I reckon 2-3 more bad results and Short will hammer the axe.
Ultimately, (With or without Grayson) I think we'll be okay. I think there's at least 5 worse teams than us and we should pick up enough wins at home to see us 'ok'. From the bigger picture, it's s disgrace a club of our size is having to contend with 'surviving' in the second tier.
Watmore coming back is a massive boost for everyone, he come off the bench Saturday and made a real impact with his direct running. Add to the mix we've got McManaman and McGeady, We're not short of attacking options, we just need to tighten up at the back and hope we find enough goals till January, then we can go out and get someone on loan or find a way of raising funds for a forward capable of scoring at this level. We've got Grabban to come back too.
Everyone is sick as a chip at the moment - The Championship has improved massively since we last went up with Nosworthy, Whitehead, Conolly etc.
I actually went down Everton for the recent cup game, enjoyed a pint with a couple of Everton lads. Great banter, enjoyed the night (except the result).
I'd be interested to hear @Sunderland afc views too.
In general I think we all think quite highly of Vaughan.
Had the most horrendous injuries which meant he was never going to make it here. But think we all like him.
Would love him to do well for you guys.
Do you not fancy loaning us Rooney? lol
Doubt many on here will have a bad word about Vaughan, suffered with some awful bad luck in regards to his injuries, theres a reason he was at Bury rather than higher upBittersweet result for us on Saturday. As for Sunderland they should have punted Cattermole along time ago along with O Shea they have been around far too long,I know Davy Doom didnt help with the atmosphere at the SOL but at the moment there seems to be no fight at all up there, although the support at PNE was good in general the crowd seem to have accepted the mediocracy that covers the place, its a club that feels rotten to the core
You desperately need that home win,I havent really seen many Sunderland games this season, only the goal highlights on C5 so its difficult to comment on the over all standard of the team but heads seem to drop as soon as a goal is conceded, the few Championship games I have watched, which include Dirty Leeds and the two Sheffield clubs,I havent seen anything outstanding, seems if you have a half decent set up in defence and a firward who can grab 10/15:goals a season then you are in with a shout of going upCan't argue with any of that @jaycee.
Moyes made the SOL a depressing, dull place to be. But, the problems started way before Moyes come on the scene.
Entire club needs a new direction, new identity too. It's a long process, but we'll still follow the lads regardless of where we are...More fool us eh?
The atmosphere under Moyes was toxic. Really awful season last year.
We've got to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and start picking up points. Have to make the SOL a fortress again. Maybe not this season, but certainly next year the fans will demand more.

When young James, first played his first senior game, just shy of his 17th birthday I genuinely thought he was going to go on become not just an all time great at Everton, but also for England too.
He was as brave as Andy Gray, he was tenacious, he knew where the goal was and could score with his head and his feet .
For a teenager, he just had such a presence on the pitch, he must've been a nightmare for defenders.
He always had a massive smile on his face and seemed to be loved by everyone.
Unfortunately as @jaycee says he suffered a catalogue of injuries early on due to his style of play, which in effect stopped him from becoming the great player that I think he would've gone on to be.
He'll always give you %100 and I think to get the best out of him nowdays, you need someone alongside him, with a bit. more skill, that he can feed off.
I'll always have a lot of love for the lad.
I think you're right about the injuries. Really stalled his progress.
Thing is with Sunderland, we've got to be realistic and accept this is where we are at the moment. We're not in a position to go out and buy a prolific striker (for this level obviously) as we're crippled in debt. We've got to find a way to bring out the best in Vaughan. It's quite clear, he can't hold the ball up so needs someone up there with him. It's extremely frustrating that someone like me, your average football fan can see it but Grayson can't (or doesn't want to).
Hoofing balls up to him and asking him to make it stick - it doesn't and we end up surrending possession.
Not addressing our lack of options up top in the window was naive and downright incompetent from the club. We put all our eggs in 1 basket (Trying to bring in Ross McCormack) and it backfired.
Hope you're right about Vaughan and he does the business over the course of the season. He's clearly very popular with your fans and one thing I will say for him, he puts 100% in to every match. Need more like that.
Since our message board has become almost unbearable with the amount of moaning about everything and anything, and while I expect a tough season some of the stuff on there is getting beyond a joke .
