The great Sunderland support is a bit of a myth. It's not bad, but in the prem they were giving away thousands of free tickets and they were one of the cheapest clubs to follow. Also, which has already been mentioned, they nearly always took the smallest allocation available in the prem. our support was by no means great at times in the prem, but we never went around saying it was.
Their crowds in the championship are actually far lower than what's being announced.Their away support is nowhere near being the best in the league and they have taken some small followings away this season. Our support home and away has been much better, especially our away support which was class last season and still remains strong. If they went through what Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday had been through, then their support wouldn't be anywhere near those two clubs.
To be fair could their lack of support be perceived as an indictment on the ownership situation, and not the "club" itself? It's always a fine line, but ultimately supporting a club has the secondary impact of lining the owner's pockets. We deal with this a lot in the states, where some franchises in the major sports have such awful owners that people turn away because of this. Tough love I guess. As of yesterday Sunderland have only sold 210 tickets for their game at our place next Tuesday. I know they are utter [Poor language removed], but that's a low turn out on the cards. Their support has completely vanished.
I don't think it's that at all. I think the fans have just gave up and are completely defeated. You can't blame them, but that's a very low turn out by them if that number is true.To be fair could their lack of support be perceived as an indictment on the ownership situation, and not the "club" itself? @orly, I must admit fella, your posts in this thread have made me laugh. I've got nothing against Sunderland personally, but a few seasons ago they used to take pleasure in ripping into our support for some reason. Glass houses and all that....
If Megan Fox moved next door and said she liked your tank top, you'd be over sniffing around too.You too mate, fantastic work. The most deluded club in the country and for some reason they think we are desperate to have a thread on them and be some sort of footballing soul mate
Everton and Villa have more in common. Tbf though, as I've said before I don't mind Sunderland. There are other clubs I prefer a lot more, but they are ok. Don't envy them at the minute, I must admit. You too mate, fantastic work. The most deluded club in the country and for some reason they think we are desperate to have a thread on them and be some sort of footballing soul mate
Other clubs come to mind who have had it worse. If Megan Fox moved next door and said she liked your tank top, you'd be over sniffing around too.
Having said that, I still haven't got such a cruel heart and don't mind Sunderland, and think their fans have been shafted by being badly run, managed and their players being useless. Other than that they'll be fine.
True dat.Other clubs come to mind who have had it worse.
