Oh yes. It's said, the Newcastle team that nearly won the league played the best football the world has ever seen - ever. 'King Kev' had them playing football on par with Brazil from the 70's like you said mate.

It's just a shame the fans didn't share the same attractive look. In Brazil, they had beautiful topless women, with their boobs popping out of low-cut tops, with beautiful, tanned beach bodies to match. Newcastle fans, resembled a look of the extras from the film - Planet of the Apes. With full grown men showing an impressive 4 layers of fat, with 'NUFC 4 EVA' tattoos clearly visible. Quite a contrast.

I remember when they went down in 2009. They were in deep trouble and they found their salvation, hero and idol in Alan Shearer. He took over the relms as manager, promised the fans passion & hope... "He'll save us" they said, then they got relegated anyway lol lollol
But did SIr Bobby Robson's ghost appear to give his blessing to Wor Al?

We'll never know....

They are an odd bunch. Strange, cos on the several times I have spent time in the NE, I am always stuck by how bloody nice everyone is. Sunderland, Middlesborough, and Newcastle. Terrific people

Aye, as a whole people find the North-East pretty friendly. Obviously, there's exceptions like all places in the world.

I've enjoyed my Afternoon mocking Newcastle on this brilliant forum. I hope people realise a lot of it is tongue-in-cheek. We're in no position to mock anyone.

I've been unlucky enough to see Newcastle pretty much dominate the derby from the late 90's to 2006 (ish). In that time, we've gone down with a record low 19 points and then we broke our own record and went down with 15 points. Countless relegations, play-off heartache and many other low points. So, you'll understand why we have to take our rare chance to laugh at them as they've had plenty of ammunition to hurt us with.

When we went down with 15 points we were leading 1-0 at home and ended up losing 4-1. The final kick in the gut was Michael Chopra scoring with his first touch. Of course, it had to be his first goal for them too. I left my seat, but I had to walk towards where they (Newcastle fans) were to get out of the ground. I was waved, ridiculed and had to leave to a chorus of "We'll meet again" sang by 6 thousand bouncing Geordies...And, that's not even mentioning our recent misery under Moyes.

Going to be a long, long time before we're back in the Premiership. That hurts, but we are were we are.

I hope you can turn it around. I always liked Sunderland. Great club. ;)
Me too. Perhaps Jozy would fancy a move back to Sunderland after doing the Community Shield/MLS Cup double this year in Toronto.

:bye:

Sorry I just had to. I really do like Sunderland though, hope you sort yourselves out

Very annoyed at the moment. It's odd, because for once, I can't blame the players & manager, as the players give it everything, Coleman put the right team out too. So, I'm having an internal battle of Positive v Negative.

Positive side is saying "We're defending better, the players are fighting for the shirt, yes we drew but that means we have 4 points in 2 games, least we tried to win the game, we're on the up, the Sunderland of 3 weeks ago would have lost that. The players didn't hide, we pushed for the winner, just unlucky - keep the faith!

Negative side - "We needed to win. They had 10-men, we have Sheffield United away next! Birmingham are woeful, and they had 10-men for the last 30 minutes, this was a must win and we failed to win. We need points, not draws. This result could prove fatal. We're doomed".

P.S - Great result for Everton, you're a transformed team. Relegation? Top 10 more like ;) Glad you've turned it around.

Hope things pick up for ye. How was Browning today? If he comes back to us, could you see him getting game time? If so, what position?

Thank you mate.

Browning did well. In fact, he's done well for weeks. Tidy on the ball, reads the game well, doesn't go diving in, but knows when to tackle. I like the fact he gets his head down, doesn't do many interviews, just sticks in, trains, then performs on Saturday. There's nothing worse than a loan player saying "I'm utterly devastated we lost, I'm hurting, I'm one of you" when everyone knows he'll be off in a few months. His priority is naturally Everton and going back a better player. I like how today, he made a horrific panicked-pass, which went straight to a Birmingham player, but didn't let it get to him, next time he had the ball, he had an easy 5-yard pass, but showed bottle by playing a risky forward pass which got us on the front-foot. I like that, the crowd did too.

For his age, he has great maturity and positional sense. He also has recovery pace, meaning if he does lose the ball, he can get back to the attacker. Also, it's worth noting he's playing in a really poor team, with a home crowd very hostile, but that doesn't get to him - Confidence is not an issue, unlike your other lad Galloway who completely collapsed under pressure.

However, he does sometimes lack experience. For example, letting the ball bounce, allowing the attacker to have the advantage. But, that'll improve with age. I'm nick-picking.

Will he get game time with you? Hard to say, as you know, there's a huge difference between Championship & Premiership. In this division, his tiny errors (playing the man on-side, letting the ball bounce etc) means it rarely leads to goals - in the Premiership, it inevitably will.

We've tried him at full-back, he did okay, he's fast, powerful and confident but looked uncomfortable. His crossing was suspect. He's a centre back mate, he desperately needs an experienced centre back next to him, to talk to him etc. Luckily, John O'Shea has helped him in that sense for some games. I think he's versatile, but his natural position is CB (in my opinion).

To summarise, he's a very, promising talent, who must be managed correctly. If he continues to develop, I see no reason he can't break in to your team. Certainly has a lot to work on, but has all the attributes - Strength, confidence, pace, positional sense etc needed to succeed.

Put it this way, our crowd have attacked virtually every player this season due to poor form - Not him. I'd like to think big Sam will have a keen interest in us for obvious reasons, so, he'll no doubt keep an eye on him.

I've been really impressed, hopefully this can lead to a healthy professional relationship with Everton in terms of loaning out your talent, it's win-win.

Hope that helps mate.

Great post, thanks. I've never to written him off, but at 23 next preseason will be make-or-break for him with us I suppose.
I'm not going to write Galloway off yet either, though he does look to have come to the end of the road on this loan. Hopefully we can get him back to the u23s soon and get him a good loan again in August. It often irritates me that our scouts took only him from MK Dons at a time when there was a lot of talk about about Dele Alli (the snide!). Still, there was a time he looked better than Stones and he is only 21.

Oof, not being able to beat Birmingham at home.

Fulham game looking a false dawn and a Christmas of worry.
