Delighted with a huge morale-boosting victory! We scored with our only shot on target! I'll take it, defended well and Nottingham Forest ran out of ideas eventually, couldn't penetrate us. They had plenty of the ball, but didn't really do much with it. We've definitely worked hard on the defensive side of things in training as we're more of a unit now, there's a coherence to our shape and we make it hard to score against us by getting bodies back. Don't get me wrong, it's quite sobering that we're coming here and parking the bus, I'd much rather we come here, played great football and played them off the park, helping us to push for promotion. But, we've got to be realistic, this is where we are at the moment, doubt that's going to change soon unless there's a monumental change of the entire structure of the club.

We've climbed out of the bottom 3 and are defending much, much better since Coleman come in. Well done to McGeady too, he's been really off-form lately so delighted he's got the winning goal - Well done Sunderland.
Hope everyone has a good night, stay safe and get drunk  Yes, that goes for you too @orly - Have a good one mate.
Good win an a more positive end to the year than we had! Got the impression that Browning played very well and ye did a good job marking Dowell out of it - any thoughts on either?

Raaaaaaaaaattttty!! Didn't get tagged in by you after the recent 3-0 defeat, was worried you'd been collared for something. Phew!

Yes excellent win yesterday. Forest obviously a club in some turmoil (interesting that owners consider defeat to Sunderland a sackable offence) so a good victory. Obviously slightly mitigated by others around you winning but that can't be controlled.

Is it fair to say a few players like McGeady have improved their form in time for the January window? I suppose it probably is.

Have an excellent new year.

Hello Headpatter!!!!

Very fair point. But, huge victory because of teams around us winning, as we'd have been cut adrift. Regarding your point about McGeady playing well. Yep, you're right, it's probably no coincidence he's improved before January, but that's football isn't it? As long as he finds form, I'm happy. I highly doubt he'll leave, first of all he's on a long-term contract, secondly, he's form's been very hit & miss so I can't see teams desperate to bring him in. Obviously, because of all financial situation, any decent offer will probably be enough to get him such it as plight.

You too mate, all the best, mean that too. I look forward to more 'debates' with you in 2018!

Oh no Ratty! @Safc-mark-91

My recent suggestion that Sunderland's "upturn" in form was more to do with opponent's inadequacies has been brutally proven to be correct.

A desperate home loss to Barnsley today despite having nearly 100 minutes to fashion a goal.

This will make January's needed firesale even harder; the threat of liquidation now chillingly clear.

2018 already looking a year of doom.

Hi Headpatter.

No denying it, this is hard to take. Dreadful performance, it's now evident that we're much better away from home than at home. That simply must change - Fast.

Barnsley were poor, but we managed to perform even worse. Freezing cold, watching that pathetic display is just sickening. Again, it reiterated the need to resolve our lack of attacking options. We're desperate for a poacher, someone to sit on the last shoulder and get in behind. We had 2 shots on target all match, that is fundamentally unacceptable and the players should be embarrassed.

Our midfield is too lightweight. No creativity in the side. Frustrating as it means all of our good work from the Nottingham Forest match stands for nothing.

Liquadation isn't remotely close, as I've been telling you for months now. But, I can't defend THAT today, it was really abysmal. Still stand by my opinion that we won't go down.

It's very much 1-step forward and 2 back at the moment. This transfer window could be the most important window in recent history.

Everton and sunderland finally have something in common.

A tough weekend.

Hi Headpatter

Poor result for you. But, you had a go at them and had them rattled after you equalised. I remember you ridiculing me for suggesting Sam would be a decent appointment. I said he would improve you defensively, I told you he would take you out of the bottom 3 and finally, he would have you sitting in a safe mid-table position within a few weeks. Do you concede that I was right? Or, do you still think it was a poor appointment? Considering where you were when be took over, I think he's done a good job. Obviously, long-term, he's probably not the answer.

You're right. Both to local rivals too. Although, 'Boro are geographically a Yorkshire club, they desperately try in vain to cling on to some sort of relevance. There's a video my friend sent me of a few Mutants (Boro fans) burning a Sunderland top shouting "We hate Mackems" - Our reaction? We're not bothered. Sunderland v Newcastle is the only proper North East derby.

Anyway...Awful game, we collapsed, couldn't put a pass together and made it a very easy Afternoon for 'Boro without laying a glove on them. I'm not too bothered, yes, it's piss-poor that 'Boro had such an easy victory, but realistically - we're not going to get far in this competition anyway. Our priority is the league, and playing in the cup could mean injuries/fatigue etc.

We've become such an awful team. This is easily the worst Sunderland team I've seen I my lifetime.

But yep, poor weekend mate.

Fair play. We'll disagree. I look forward to your evaluation.

For once, I'm going to give you some credit. When Rooney was going through a 'bad run', not scoring etc. I can distinctly remember you arguing with posters on here, after a bad result, that he would come good. Some were suggesting he's finished, asking for him to be dropped. I think maybe 3/4 weeks later he got that hatrick at Goodison, putting in several colossal performances. Also, a contender for GOTS with a long-range beauty v West Ham. Obviously, I'm sure you weren't the only one to say this, but you were very abrupt, bordering on aggressive (not like you eh? lol) and have been proven to be right. Think he's on 12 goals? Equaliser v Liverpool at Anfield too.

Why say this? Last week, someone on this forum was asking why I "hate" Orly, and him me. I just wanted to clarify, I don't hate him, on the contrary, I'm capable of recognising when he talks sense.

Don't worry, I'm not going soft on you. You can be sure I'll accidentally tag you when Sunderland next win (granted could be long wait) and you'll no doubt return the courtesy if we lose to Cardiff

I woke up this morning with genuine hope of nicking a surprise win v Middlesbrough, now I'm deliberately avoiding all things SAFC related.

Official club account thinks they are playing in the Cup today, rather than the league.

Liquidation necessary
