I'd certainly think about it in today's market but I'd also look at getting a younger centre back in aswell. Maybe take a chance on someone like Kilgallon at Sheffield Utd.

But then I still think he's a very good centre back, others may disagree with that. He's just let down by a woeful Portsmouth side.

I'm sure he'd be fine, experienced Prem player is what we need at the moment really. Moyes has said he wants two centre backs so it makes sense to have one old and one young.

I am far more concerned about the other two transfers tho.

moyse would not pay 6 million for him at 32 taylor is early 20s and costs round 6 million as would huth or senderos they aree better options just my opinion

I rate him highly, and was disappointed we didn't go after him when he left City on a free. But he's 31 (says TB) which is too old for us, given we have to look at players with potential, rather than players that have realised that potential.

It's a shame, though, because he'd offer a lot.

Distin would be sound for a year. Try and get him for £4-5m and save some money to throw at Stoke for Shawcross.

Always rated Distin, but £4-5m for a 31 year old, is just too much for my liking. In the BBC gossip column, there was talk of us offering £12m for Shawcross. Him and Taylor would be absolutely perfect.

31/32 is not a bad age for a defender. How old was Gough when he joined us? Distin could easily do a job for three or four seasons injuries permitting.

If anything I think we need experience, as good as Yobo is he isn't a leader and I very much doubt he'd compliment an inexperienced young centre back. It'd be a bit of a gamble in my opinion.

Distin will be a quality signing if we pull it off.

Its a lot of money, but I suppose there is some talent there, just would hate us to spunk anymore than £5m on him. For me Senderos seemed the better option, 7 years younger, same price, maybe not as talented, but he has the makings of a good player.

I think we now though we do need two new centrebacks, and Distin would be perfect. Someone who is very experienced and would fit right into the squad instantly which is now what we need.
We should also get a younger centreback with alot of potential who could also do a job for us thuis season what with Jagielka's injury and Yobo's other comitments.

Oh, well Moyes is very critical of people that screw their clubs like that. Obviously we won't be buying him, or will we?

Seriously, he'd be fantastic this season, or so I believe. But it doesn't really fit in with Moyes' policy of experienced, younger players. Furthermore, surely wages will be a stumbling block? Pompey no doubt gave him a pretty decent wedge, seeing as there wasn't a transfer fee (how else would they have dealt with the competition for his signature?). I imagine he's on as much as Lescott was here, if not a bit more. Would he take a cut? And would he sign a 3 year contract?

Anyway, he is still a top player. So there'll be no complaints from me if he comes. He's hard as nails as well, which is nice.
