Tactical Side of Rafael Regime

Not having DCL will test Benitez now. The first half last night was as much about finding out how tough life will be without the go-to outball to DCL as much as it was discovering we had the wrong formation. 2nd half saw him asking more of the team to carry the ball from midfield. It's easy waltzing through the middle of Burnley, but better teams will close down runs the likes of which Doucoure was making and Gomes wont get time to get on the ball to such good effect.

In the PL, I think we'll see a parking of the bus against both Villa and United and try for the draws. Norwich we'll go for it a bit more, but I dont think we'll see us get forward as much as we have been doing - and would have still had DCL not been injured.

That said, Benitez will be in his element looking to thwart teams that will throw the kitchen sink at us. It's good to know he's in our dugout.

I don't plan on posting any on here as I know it won't be received as well as Twitter. Just interested in sparking debate with others. Cheer up, buddy

Thats very judgemental / you're a hell of a tease.

Saying you've some great tactical analysis skills but then refusing to share any is a bit of a WUM

Hello, @TacticallyEv

I'm not on twitter, but I took a gander at your thoughts on the Burnley game. You were impressed (hope that's not putting it too strongly) with Gomes' role in turning the game around which was very interesting for me because I kind of overlooked him.

Do you think we'll see a similar set up to how we finished last night in our upcoming games?

Hi mate.

To be honest, he played fairly well, but it was more due to the system change which came hand in hand with him coming on. Adding another midfield body allowed us to create an overload often leaving Gomes and more often, Doucoure with more space than the first half. He often picked up the ball in the #10 position rather than the #6.

We could easily setup in the first half system aswell! I believe Rafael did it to nullify the threat of a two striker partnership, which Villa should have on Saturday. Andros Townsend said in his post-game interview that we've been working on the system a lot, so who knows!

I write a lot about Everton's tactical side of the game over on my twitter (same as my username here) and it's gained ridiculous traction recently. A lot of people massively impressed with how were playing.

What are the main differences between Carlo and Rafael do you think?
Can you link me your twitter page mate? Sounds good.

Can I ask one further question, apologies in advance. I instinctively blamed Mina for the conceded goal last night, within the match thread I saw various levels of blame attributed to all three central defenders.

Did you pick out anyone being at particular fault for the conceded goal? Apart from Atkinson, of course.
