So if he buys out the current Everton owners, because Lord Grantchester will no longer be involved, does that mean we actually have an owner with less net worth?

Everton that.

The other 25% is in the hands of minor shareholders and individuals and widely distributed. Doubt it means what you think it does, just means at this moment in time he is buying up the major shareholders in order to hold 75% of the club which has some meaning with regards to control and the running the club.
One reason for agreeing 75% is then pre-acquisition you can go to court for a scheme of arrangement to acquire 100%.
Another reason to hold 75% +1 share is that to all intents and purposes any resolution will be passed and the minority shareholders are left with little recourse unless you do something that is seriously detrimental to their interest.
The first option is the one that I would prefer.

For me it sounds like the Moshiri talk is just putting 2+2 together from the daily mails article yesterday on the mystery middle eastern buyer. Would be happy with this guy but at the same time would love it to be some mystery arab wealthy prince.

I knew it was something along those lines. Don't know a huge amount financially beyond what is common sense but had seen you and the Esk mention that figure of 75% as being important.
