Stan Wawrinka at just 6' tall is an amazing blip for his slam wins Aus 14, French 15, US 16. Murray (6'3") has only* 3 slams also (5 Aus final losses - ouch)

If Murray had stayed fit I think he would have had at least double his total. At lest a couple more Wimbledons.
People forget he was World no1.
Granted he wouldn't have got to the heights of the other 3, but Djokovic wouldn't have had the latter end of the 10s all his own way if Murrays hip hadn't given out st the end of 06.

Indeed. Two gladiators knocked lumps out of each other and we've never seen it before or since. tbc - there's a fish that watches two fish fight to the death then swallows each, the azulfish?

You snuck Murray in there. But Federer is in his 40s and his actual prime coincided with that of Nadal's. Djokovic is brilliant, but he sort of picked up the pieces. He also is a gobshite, and that does matter in these retrospectives

Yes, biut on Federer: regardkless of the degrading of Novak's achievements to reach 23 GS titles, no one talks of Federer these days as the best player of all time. They cant go there and claim that withoiut looking ridiculous when there's a man still sweeping up GS titles to the tune of 23 and probably 24 tomorrow.

So, while he's being denied his due, Djokovic's GS haul has chopped off at the legs all talk of anyone else being though of serioulsy as the best ever.

I still feel that Federer is firmly in the GOAT discussion. It's like rock music. Influence matters. Led Zeppelin didn't sell the most records, but they're in the discussion for both the best band of all time and the biggest waste of talent, given that they had top ten musicians of all time in every role. On paper, they should have put the discussion to bed for good.

As I said, I happen to agree with you re: Djokovic, but I don't think your reasoning is sound.

I hope Novak wins, but Medvedev is such a stylist (oddity?) that I'd be happy to see him win.
