Watching her game.. its really difficult to pick out any weaknesses. It's almost flawless.

Excellent service technique
Brilliant court coverage
Excellent ground strokes that can go toe to toe with anything else out there
Can hit winners off both sides
Can win points at the net when required
Superb shot selection, never plays something that you think is too silly or ambitious
Ice cool demenour, plays each point for itself whether its the first or last point of the match

It's impossible that she's peaked after just 2 majors, so she'll get even better, but she is already an absolute force of nature. Absolute superstar.
And of course, she is cute as a button!

And it was all such fine margins. Because it was so hard fought and they were so evenly matched, it could have gone either way. That's what made it so watchable

Sake Dave.
Getting like the RAWK alternative League now..
That's the way of tight tennis matches. Literally 3 or 4 more errors by your opponent and winners for yourself means success over defeat.

I must admit when the momentum swung against Raducanu in the first set I was surprised she stuck in there to turn it back again in her favour.

The first set was always going to determine everything.

Make your mind up Dave and get off the fence. And those of you arguing that the medical break cost Fernandez, Emma was a set and 5-3 up, was 30-40 down but on serve. Fernandez had a hell of a lot to do to win from there.
As for her nationality, she was smiling broadly after the presentations, but did you notice her face light up even more when the girl holding the large Union Flag walked towards her? She knows who she is.

Another point won and she's back on serve in the 2nd set in a verty tight encounter.

Hardly a "a hell of a lot to do".

Momentum is everything in tennis. If Fernandez had broken back to 5-4 with her serve to come it could have got in Raducanu's head.

That was gamesmanship from her. That said, Im sure Fernandez would have tried it if it was the other way around.

It's not a wind up. It was as impressive as you get holding her nerve like that, especially when you consider she bottled it at Wimbledon.

I'm just saying she faced no one. I said she'd win in straight sets and she did.

But no way will she ever face no ranking player in a tournament again.

That said, women's tennis is as open as golf, and just about anyone can win a major.
She did face ranking players...

Do you watch much tennis?

Her achievement is without question but she's clearly not a patch (yet) on other recent champions let alone the likes of Serena Williams
I mentioned similar earlier on the thread, both players made quite a few unforced errors that would have been punished if they were playing more experienced pros. However, theywerent, they'd both earned the opportunity to play in the final and you can only beat who you are faced with. The history books wont comment on who had an easier journey to the final etc. Well played girl

I thought the key was the start of the second, tbf.

To go a break down (for the first time in the tournament) and then immediately hit back. That's when she finally broke Fernandez mentally it seemed.

Both of them were exceptional in the final and in the tournament in general. Both would have been worthy winners. I think the medical time-out proved Fernandez just lacked the composure when it mattered most, though.

I expected Raducanu to beat Fernandez with more ease, tbh.

Fernandez serves to get the point in motion, it's not a weapon. She's mobile and chases down shots, but not really dictating rallies (although she did well enough last night...but that was because Raducanu was hesitant and not hitting through her shots on occasion).

I could easily see the pair of them not winning a slam title from this point, tbh. It was just one of those freak tournaments. I think Covid19 has had a massive impact on disrupting all sports.
