I raised the subject of Villa because I'd rather have a Randy Lerner-type investor who understands the background of the club and the local area than a billionaire who wants a new toy. Not commenting on their history or comparing them to us. I'd just rather their model of growth than chelsea's or City's.

I have nothing against Lerner or what's happened at Villa, tbh. I'm not an expert on what happened in their takeover, but it seems a bit convoluted in the sense that one arm of the Lerner empire loaned monies to another part to pay for the takeover at a rate of interest I cant quite remember (but it's there) and some vague wording about getting the whole lot back at some unspecified date in the future. I suppose all you can do is judge them on what's happening in the short to medium term in terms of backing the manager. They did nothing in that respect for the first year but seem to have coughed up a bit last season. It'll be interesting to see what happens this summer at Villa. Neiler reckons they're in trouble, although I dont know what that's based upon.

Holy shizzle? Has Randy Lerner suddenly been cast as the bad guy now?? So now we have no takeovers considered to be a "success".

Is Neiler Ian Ross?

The only form of takeover now acceptable is £5b in cash thrown over Bill's garden wall with a note attached reading: "You're doing a boss job, Bill, crack on with this small donation".

" I often feel Everton fans are the happiest in football ... "

and

" The teams above them get spoiled by money and expectation. They all envy what Everton have achieved and how they've gone about it. That means more than winning trophies "

Best laugh i've had for years.

That's what Leahy says to the local grocers losing money hand over fist to Tesco:

"Ok, we may get all the profits, and the banks are calling in your debts, but you're made up there with your little apron on talking to the locals".

He's head of a company that turnsover £1billion per day and he has the front to tell us happy Evertonians that we should be grateful being part of this 'true sporting club' (Whatever that means) and we should be thankful even though we haven't won anything for 14 years and it doesn't look like we ever will.

Nice one Terry.

This is why I shop at Asda. (y)

To be fair, as most Evertonians do, hes trying to put a positive spin on us not winning f all. We all do it. Loads of fans on here praise the way we have gone about things.

"They all envy what Everton have achieved and how they've gone about it."

Perhaps envy isnt the right word, respect would have been better but he has a point, you very rarely find a top four supporter who dislikes Everton - but you'll find they all dislike the likes of Spurs and Newcastle...

But he's part of 'destination Kirkby'. Scrutinise every word. Any excuse ay lads...

Yawn.

Well its a stupid thing to say, maybe the likes of Hull and Wigan envy what we have, but I cant really see United looking at us thinking, "You know what, that Everton are onto to something there, lets bank the £80m from Ronaldo and get a few loans in".

I was brought up to expect more from Everton.

So, on reflection it's all me dad's fault and when I see him tomorrow, i'll give him a slap for building my hopes up

I just want us to kick on. We aint gonna do that with the current board. I really hope they make a mug of me this Summer and spend some money. Nothing would make me happier.

Make me a clown Bill, MAKE ME A CLOWN.

On one hand we need major investment , but on the other I for one don't want our great club be somebodies plaything. But we need to move on. In time the players ala Arteta n Cahill will get more and more frustrated and will leave, then instead of Europe every season , it will be back to mid-table mediorocay or worse.........

I posted the story to point out the hypocrisy of Leahy telling anyone it was ok to remain small but honest. It was a breathtaking display of failing to see the irony in his own words - a man who knows second best is nowhere from his business life.

Maybe if the Kirkby thread was opened up any 'excuse' to have a go at him and his DK friends wouldn't quickly surface?

As you know, the membership were polled regarding Kirkby discussion - it emerged the majority found it tedious and wanted it closing. Hardly surprising.

As I said, as most Evertonians do, hes trying to put a positive spin on us not winning f all. We all do it. Loads of fans on here and throughout the football world praise the way we have gone about things. It doesn't warrant another thread to slam anyone concerning destination Kirkby. Scrutinise every word. Any excuse ay...

Yawn.
