Texting and driving

It’s not big and it’s not clever.

I’ve seen loads of people doing this over the past few weeks, more than usual.

It really really does my head in.

Just as bad as drunk driving if you ask me, which nobody did but I’m venting anyway.

Worse than drunk driving. It's done deliberately whereas there is some argument for diminished responsibility when drunk.

Both are bad though.

It’s horrendous snd it’s endemic in American culture. Can’t say enough bad about it and not sure how to protect drivers from themselves.

I recently did a driving awareness course in lieu of 3 points for running a red light (entirely my fault, not familiar with a road layout, but still should have slowed).

Completely eye opening how many drivers are hopelessly unaware using the phone is an offense or were arguing they needed to access emails at all times.

No one needs to access emails at all times. Behave.

It's selfish and out of order. Not as bad as the stocky fellas driving range rovers who do the one arm on the wheel pretending to be deep in thought manoeuvre. Absolute blimps mate.

Smoking in the car eurgh. I work with a woman who must have about 12 on her way into work. She smells like an absolute bifter. Boss cleave.

Ive still unbelievably seen people driving and on the phone same time - I dont even take my phone with me when i drive lol

I would argue that you are more capable of of responsible thinking before you get drunk with access to a car.
Would also argue there is absolutely no excuse for drink driving either.
IMHO the train of thought you seem to be taking potentially leads to the argument that a drunk driver killing someone wasn’t really at fault because their thinking was impaired due to booze. Ie not really their fault.
Not trying to put words in your mouth, just a logical conclusion for me

Don't get me wrong, drink driving is abhorrent. The point I'm making is that texting is done with full faculty. However the decisions you make after a skinfull aren't done with the same brain. I'm not saying it's an excuse, but it's a reason why texting whie is worse in my view. I'd also argue that the impact on driving is way way more dangerous.

Yep, I got caught a few years ago, 6 points and £200.

Agree both are abhorrent, not sure the impact of txting while driving is as bad as DUI mind (it can be in the worst cases)
Suspect no such stats exist but I would be surprised if there weren’t millions of people using their phones in their vehicle every day compared to significantly fewer drunk drivers now. However I’d expect the accident rates and severity would be heavily weighted towards the smaller pool of drunk drivers.

Would love to know what texts people get that need looking at while driving. All I get is 'don't forget my magazines'. Forget that.
