Depends what people aspire to. Live a life in relative comfort so your health and well being is secure and you're not left exposed to a future of deprivation. That seems something reasonable to aspire to.

Middle class aspiration usually means accumulating all the trappings of status and chasing wealth.

I mistrust middle class people. I just dont like them by and large. They're alien to me.

Yep, that seems about right. The first bit. That and that your kids leave home fit, educated, and independent in thought I would add to mine.

But its a bit daft saying you dislike all middle class folk Dave. Although thinking about it, they ca display unpleasant traits I guess. But then we all can.

By any popular definition, I am horrendously Middle Class for example. Earned tons a few years back, but a combo of factors mean those days are way away, and only by working very hard, will I get back to the level of income I preferred. Even though my modest income now is just about enough to get by.

So am I working class now, but would prefer the income I had, thus making me middle class really? Or is it a state of mind?

Dunno me. Dont really care actually.

Interesting Dave...

What's your view on aspiring to accumulate sufficient capital over and above your personal requirements for future generations, your children, grand-children etc to have a decent start in life? Can't working class people have those aspirations too? (albeit unlikely to be achieved by most)

Costas whatever his name is, is the son of a Greek Shipping magnate Billionaire. Costas went to his dad in the first place for the cash to start his airline. If thats aspirational middle class then taxing the top 10% isn't a requirement but an obligation.

Haha! Is he ffs? Oh well.

That whole England flag home thing is EXACTLY why labour has lost the working class vote. Gordon Brown calling that arl woman a bigot aswell and that racist Diane Abbott they are a middle class PC brigade bunch of melts. They are pro EU, Pro unrestricted immigration, anti patriotism and just as much in the bankers pockets as the Tories.

Like has been said the Labour party are finished. They will stay "relevant" for aslong as the left wing of the guardian need a party nearest to their ideals to cling onto. Sort of like a euro skeptic with the Tories if UKIP didn't exist
