The easiest way to ruin someone's/party's reputation is to accuse them of something bad. Whether it's true or not doesn't matter as long as it sticks. That's how UKIP are getting all these votes IMO. They've successfully pushed the idea that the main parties just don't care about the average man and that they're all elitist and won't do anything about the EU etc. even though that's the exact opposite of the truth. The UKIP party is the fat cat party and the most elitist but it doesn't matter because UKIP have already poisoned the well. The moment someone thinks of a mainstream party they think "out of touch" and somehow Nigel Farage is better than them, quite literally been successfully brainwashed. You can see the UKIP online propaganda machine in full flow in all the newspaper websites, even look at the Guardian and the BBC. Somehow full of UKIP supporters, it's all fake.

Media manipulation, pioneered by Blair/Campbell/Mandelson, and now ironically being deployed onto Milliband.

What comes around goes around they might say.

Blair's spin along with the expenses scandal has done more than anything else to ruin the credibility of politics in this country

Wouldnt disagree with the tenor of this. Best people for the positions. Always said it. Its also why I get annoyed at folk who just cannot see past their political affiliations when commenting on stuff. A "every Tory is bad" "every Socialist is rubbish" gets us nowhere.

I always have and always will be completely baffled by tribalism in politics, especially in this day and age when you can barely get a cigarette paper between the 3 main parties on most issues. I just can't understand how bitter and sadistic somebodies life must be to have such hatred for a group of people simply because they have slightly different beliefs.

Are The Monster Raving Looney Party still going these days?

Indeed we are. Only £10 gets you access to Howlin' Laud Hope (Party leader) and an input in to the Mankifesto going in to the May election. What value for money! (£50k gets access to Cameron so you can do the maths).

You would have to prove that you are a loony (as opposed to a nutter) via a simple test. For example, a loony would say that EFC totally dominated the Spuds yesterday and should have won by 3 clear goals. A nutter, on the other hand, would say that LFC will win the Prem within 5 years especially with Brenda at the helm.

Vote Loony. You know it makes sense

It's pretty easy to see how someone who lost their home/job/health etc because of those "slightly different beliefs" might harbour it though, isn't it?

I agree it's kinda silly when this blinds someone to anything political opponents might have to say though, good idea or not. Tribalism in politics only holds us all back.

Certainly, but not to the extent where somebody hates all people who identify with a certain party for that reason. Many people dislike Thatcher, Blair and Brown etc for good reason, but that shouldn't mean all people who identify with their political parties should also be shown the same distain.

Ultimately I couldn’t give a toss whether somebody is a die-hard socialist, tory or even a libertarian, it doesn’t make them bad people, they just happen to have different beliefs - sure, it’s good to debate people with different beliefs and explain why you think they’re wrong, but hate them for it? Nah, life is way too short for that.

Yet you don't realise that for however long you've been alive you'd had Labour (and some Convervative) propaganda shoved down your throat. It's called parties trying to win your vote. It will always happen. Just because UKIP are prominent in the media now doesn't mean it's this new horrible thing happening.

I can't help but think how different this thread would be if Labour hadn't torpedoed the SNP's YES campaign in the Scottish devolution referendum. The Tories would have next year's election in the bag already.

I wonder if the SNP will side with their traditional enemies, the Tories, to get what they want for Scotland, throwing Labour to the wolves in the process.... or continue to side with their friends in the Labour party, who will never, ever grant them any greater independence than they already have.

don't the conservatives campaign with three times the budget labour do?

It rankles me how the two main parties are treating the NHS at the moment. Labour were open about using it as a weapon in the election, and it's fairly obvious that the £2bn the Tories have found today (and the support for it from NHS England) is largely designed to negate that weapon. It really shouldn't be used as some political plaything to try and win power for one or the other.

It's all about them, I dare say they couldn't give a monkeys about the actual people using it or working in it at all.
