Haha fair enough. My fear would be they would have the best interests of Scotland in mind, even to the detriment to the rest of the UK, imagine having an SNP defence secretary. It wouldn't come as a surprise if he aimed to move the nuclear subs down from Scotland would it. Or an SNP education secretary, could double down on university tuition increases to pay for Scotland's education freebies lol

It will throw up all sorts. I would like to think they would take the responsible approach, a bit like the Liberals did, but somehow I cant see it.

Right, that's it.

Now I am truly p**ed off with both Tories & Labour trying to outdo each other with their spending plans IF they get elected.

Where has all this "new" money come from for the NHS, Roads and now flood defence?

Wont be new money at all as it will be taken off some other budgets such as defence or badger killing. And of course, once either has been elected, they will quickly find a way to renege in any case by saying that the economy isn't quite as healthy as they predicted (Tory) or that the other lot had left it in such an appalling way that it will take years to fix (Labour).
Why can't they treat us like adults and admit that we are screwed as a country?

Vote Loony. It can't be worse

It's like transfer deadline day isn't it? If people really cared about governments only spending money they actually had, there would be a strong record of the books being balanced. In reality, that very rarely happens (thrice in the last twenty five years I believe).

That and the short-term nature of politics means that if a government can curry favour by splashing some cash that they don't have to pay for until much later (when they're safely tucked up in the House of Lords) then it's a bit of a no brainer isn't it?

That's the nub ........ bread today (with jam). Tomorrow, no jam.

However, there is no excuse for this promised splurge. IF the Tories were serious about flood defence, they would have instigated something in the Spring when the memory of the misery flooding causes was still fresh and it would actually have looked like they were doing something.

It's patronising in the extreme. And Balls is no better (although I think Mrs Balls is quite a cutey in an elfin like way. Hubba, hubba)

short termism is a problem in democracy though eh, when a benevolent dictator takes control we will see real progress

From the Guardian:

One question that Osborne MUST be asked:
In 2010 debt as a % of GDP was just over 60% with claims of Labour mismanagement, profligate spending and predictions of financial Armageddon from the Tories... Now after 4 years of Osborne and the collations so called economic miracle, debt as a % of GDP is 80%.. How is this evidence of a strong and healing economy?
