This is the world we live in. When are we going to do something about it?
That is actually quite shocking.

But it has to be corrected in a balanced way imo. Everybody claims to be against this situation, even those in the 1% aren't publicly going to defend this kind of wealth distribution, privately yes, but not publicly. They should be prevented from using their wealth to avoid their responsibilities, but at the same time, they shouldn't be unfairly penalized simply because of their wealth. The biggest danger in my opinion comes when wealthy individuals use policy makers to permanently protect and increase their assets so that wealth simply goes round and round at the top. An extreme example is the bill that was recently passed in the US that allows banking corporations to use their customers' deposits to gamble in the derivatives market. If they win they get to keep the money, if they lose the taxpayers bail them out. So essentially it's a win-win for those at the top, there is no risk at all so the wealth keeps spinning round and round like a merry-go-round.

Pensioner bond scheme? Ah but it's an unsustainable high yielding buy in project....

....someone somewhere has crunched the numbers, when they need it, that someone will ask - why should everyone else pay for your care, it's you living in the care home..... where's all those savings we topped up for you?

The long game at work, when something is too good to be true, you can bet your bottom dollar it's a Tory minded fiddle being played.

Not bothered to be honest. The top 1% live in a completely different world, nothing will ever change that.

I'd like to see how the wealth is split between the other 99%, as that is the world we all live in.

The world's 85 richest people own more assets than the world's poorest 50% (3.6 bn people).

Taking a snapshot of something is interesting but not really very useful in understanding things. What causes wealth to be distributed in such a way? How has it changed over the years? What has contributed to that change? What is a desirable level of distribution? How can that be achieved?

There's a lot of talk about the so called 1%, but very little seems to be said about why things are the way they are, how it's bad, what can be done about it etc.

So the majority of us are roughly in the same boat. I can handle that. Seriously, I just don't care about financial inequality.

EDIT: And I mean that about those richer than me, not those poorer than me. People have more money than me, boo hoo, I'll get over it.

This may be a bit simplistic. A top man earning say 20 million decides to only take 10 instead. The other ten could be used for possibly increase workforce wages, employ more staff or reduce cost of the product.

People will still vote for this man. "I can't answer that question because I haven't had time to rehearse an answer."

To be fair, if he hasn't read the letter I'm not sure how he can comment on it?

Disregard the possibility that he probably has read the letter and is just trying to dodge the question.

He was offered a thirty minute break to read it and then comment on it. A bit of a snide move, yes, but Dermot completely caught him out. He wasn't prepared to comment on the issue and wouldn't do so under any circumstance. As you hear at the end, "you won't speak until you get the party line right."

He throws his hands up in frustration. Not because he feels like the interview was unfair but because he knew he'd been embarrassed.
