Lionel Messi couldn't have set him up any better there. The Labs been using Chuka quite a lot and this was a stitchup job if ever I've seen one. Considering the timing, should have been prepared. It is performances such as this that give the opponents reward for targeting and media pressure (see how Ed 'Wallace' Milibland has been destroyed).

Disregard the possibility that he probably has read the letter and is just trying to dodge the question.

He was offered a thirty minute break to read it and then comment on it. A bit of a snide move, yes, but Dermot completely caught him out. He wasn't prepared to comment on the issue and wouldn't do so under any circumstance. As you hear at the end, "you won't speak until you get the party line right."

He throws his hands up in frustration. Not because he feels like the interview was unfair but because he knew he'd been embarrassed.
So what? Every other MP would have done the same thing so I don't get your point. What an embarrassing offer to make, "come back in 30 minutes".

For sure, he probably should have read the letter to be prepared and all that, I just don't think it was a constructive interview. He was just trying to catch him out or get him to say something tweet worthy about Cameron. Surely there are better things to do?

While nearly all MPs dodge questions, there are a decent amount (thank goodness, otherwise politics would be well and truly useless) who'd actually have the gut to attempt to answer the question. Chuka just proved to potential voters that he's spineless and will only say what the party wants him to say, otherwise he'll throw his hands up in a strop. Even if you've just had the worst interview in the world you don't storm off. Bad temperament is not an attractive trait for politicians.

To be fair, if he hasn't read the letter I'm not sure how he can comment on it?
This is the one thing I really don't like about British politics, MP's are expected to know everything and anything even if that's not their main role. Why on earth do I see the defence secretary of the UK answering questions on the NHS on programmes like Question Time? What is going on? Chukka Ummuna works in Business if I'm not mistaken, why would he know anything about a letter from Cameron to the Muslim community? Mindboggling.

Actually that's not even close to being true. Not a single MP would have taken that offer by Sky News to come back in 30 minutes at their becking call, the guy was clearly frustrated and embarrassed at being rejected by Chukka to return that he just had to make a snide sideways remark that one would expect to find in FOX news rather than Sky News. Anyone who watched FOX would know what I'm talking about.

I didn't respond to you saying anything about the offer...

The guy said he didn't read the letter! It's not wise to comment on a letter you didn't read and then came the embarrassing 30 minute offer which was rejected and then they both threw their toys out of the pram! But what you are saying is....wait for it.... *drum roll* he READ IT and he's LYING. This is just pure speculation, and if you're saying people should never vote for him again based on pure speculation then I don't even know what to say. You're trying to make a scandal out of literally nothing, like FOX.

Yep. Serves absolutely no purpose other than to inflate the interviewers ego imo. Said the same thing when Miliband tried to hijack Cameron over what someone said about paying the disabled less money.

Whatever side it is, it is pointless, purile, and adds absolutely nothing to the political debate. As a voter, I would be quite interested to see the stance the Shadow Business Secretary took about the issues he was invited to talk about. As it is, all I now know is that he didnt read someone elses mail.

This fixed term parliament is just wrong. Knowing the date of the election so far in advance has already turned me off and I really cannot be bothered to listen to claim & counter claim any longer.

Vote Al Murray
