Already partial nationalised, Network Rail, achieved by Labour in the last parliament after the inflicted demise of Railtrack. The other bits in private hands are the various rolling stock companies around the country.

I know but the government should play a larger role and act as conscience when the ultra-capitalist ideology of charging over the odds for goods which are a necessity not a luxury while at the same time making huge profits.

I was more pointing towards the gas, electric and water companies where illegal collusion has been found to be taken place due to the market being unable to operate competitively.

Impossible to implement such plans

Impossible to implement such plans

Impossible to implement a mandatory maximum fee taking inflation into account for individuals over a certain age unable to sustainably afford a heating bill from company's that made profits in the billions last year.

Your definition of impossible is very different to mine. It won't be done but it is very easy to implement such plans and still have the company make profits in the billions.

I think I'd rather billion pound companies make a couple of hundred million less than have thousands of people die.

I have researched this problem in depth mate believe me its not possible

Your not looking at the big picture

The system under which we operate is inherently flawed, but it is sustainable in so much as it keeps the rich rich, the not so rich not so rich and the poor quiet.

You can't make big changes to the system and see it maintained, you need to re-write the system. Which won't happen, because there's too much of a vested interest from the powerful in seeing the status quo maintained.

Small, gradual improvements are the best we can hope for as individuals.

I am so pleased Nelson Mandela didn't agree with you mate

I'm thinking £200 an hour, 3 day week, plus bonuses and long term incentive plans, share options, pension and company car, subsidised housing, private healthcare and money whenever I want it............same as usual in fact.......... Or we could just throw the politicians in the Mersey............

I have employed many, many people over the years and I have payed them whatever they want - just one condition, productivity = increase in pay rises.

Now it's not possible in all jobs, I understand that, but anything is affordable if it is matched by productivity.

I can't tell if you're joking or not, real convincing argument. If you provide statistics of how it's not possible then I will read them try to find counter arguments and if I'm unable to then will concede defeat.

I'm not suggesting everyone who can't afford it should be given it, People over a certain age of 70 and are physically unable to afford there heating bill should be able to apply for schemes which dramatically lowers there heating bill during winter.

the average winter heating bill is roughly £600, British gas made £1.9 billion in profit last year. should the company be forced to allow 333,333 of the most vulnerable people free heating the company would still be making £1.7 billion in profit.

£200,000,000/£600 = 333,333.

Obviously it's not that simple but explain to me why it isn't possible.
