I had a Labour election leaflet delivered today. On the minimum wage their plan is to lift this to £8 per hour, there is a big but, to arrive at that figure by 2020, 5 years from now!

I find it hard to answer this, simply because I object to a 'minimum wage' in the way it is currently implemented. Every person and every family have different requirements, what would be deemed a sufficient wage for one person would not be sufficient for another so I don't see how imposing a blanket minimum wage works for everyone.

True enough, but unless we go down the road of means testing for how much your minimum wage should be, then a blanket minimum wage is the best solution.

The only other solution would be collective bargaining, etc, but the TUs don't have a enough power for this to be workable in this country.

You would be better off reading the SNP one mate. They will call the shots in the next government.

Arguably the same case can be made with Rail and Power like he stated however I wouldn't go as far as to say re-nationalization however, partial privatisation and higher regulation should have been put in place in my opinion especially in the power, gas companies etc. which has just led to oligarchical companies making billions while elderly citizens go without heating.

Inflation of 2% per year would lead to a required minimum wage of about £7.30 by then anyway. So yes, they're hardly making a massive promise there.

Already partial nationalised, Network Rail, achieved by Labour in the last parliament after the inflicted demise of Railtrack. The other bits in private hands are the various rolling stock companies around the country.
