Given the huge shift to the right from both major parties here over the last 30 years, I don't believe you.
Well if that's the case, then that shift should be telling you something.

Naturally judging by all the hand-wringing and agonizing on here but you're missing my point.
My point was that I've been where you are now. And contrary to your post about being delighted, I'm not sitting here jumping up and down because conservatives won the day in your country. If you see an elected party get too far out of line with the general electorate, over time the electorate will reign that party in by giving more power to the other party (or parties in UK). It happens here quite a bit and I assume that if the conservatives don't do right by the people, then the people will eventually give the opposing parties more power to equal it all out.
At any rate, the point I was trying to make is that I don't think it's going to be near as bad as you think it will be.
The other thing to remember is that if the Tory's get a majority they can push through the boundary changes and gerrymander their own future election victories for a decade or more to come.
We are now in the ball park of entering a one party state. A frightening brutal future unfolding before us. The Thatcher years will be seen as a golden age when this happens.
The Scots will leave and that will increase even more the one party state.
It's an utter disaster for democracy in this country.
Indeed. Just like they did in 1997, 2001 and 2005 when he told them to vote Labour.
Funnily enough, there weren't any complaints at the time.
Well if that's the case, then that shift should be telling you something.
A 20yo student has just won the Paisley seat, usurping the sitting Lab candidate. Unreal what is happening up there.
He will. He can now resign from his post and leave politics to take up a few directorships on boards of companies who will value his ability to give them contacts to legislative decision makers.A perfect storm for Cameron. Labour shafted by the SNP in Scotland and the Lib Dem votes have gone to the Tories. We all knew, in 2010, that Clegg had been done by Cameron. Everybody could see it but him. I hope he can look back and think it was worth it.
In 1997 I was drunk on the prospect of Labour in government, by 2001 I saw straight through Blair.
Tonights result will see the Blairites crawl out of the woodwork, they'll once more try to drag the party back to the right. Hopefully we stand firm and hold our ground, this is turning out to be a disaster but I'd much rather fight on and rebuild with values which the Labour movement was built on rather than selling ourselves down the river.
The big question tonight - is democratic socialism finished in this country? Labour have not succesfully won an election since the 1970s with left leaning policies.
Cant bear to see fat head Cameron's smug face after this [Poor language removed].
Telling me what exactly? That greed is getting out of control and the right wing press are all conquering?
