WEDNESDAY 7TH OCTOBER 7PM KO
FA WOMEN'S CONTINENTAL LEAGUE CUP
MAN CITY WOMEN 3 EVERTON WOMEN 1

Tonight Everton faced what you could probably say was there toughest game of the season in a slightly watered down version of the Conti Cup in what is a dress rehearsal of the up comming FA CUP on 1st November, Everton v the so called top 3 till they beat Chelsea a few weeks ago like most teams have not the best record overall, and tonight they faced 3 time Conti cup winners Man City who have beat Everton in there last 12 games while also been unbeaten in 33 home games in just over 2 years, Its a 4 team group with the top team going through from each of the 6 groups while the 2 best placed 2 teams overall from the 6 groups will make that final 8 teams, - Tonight we came up against our old forward Chloe Kelly who no surprise has stared well at City while we were going into this game with a few little Injuries one of them been Winger Raso who had a slight Hamstring Problem and missed out in the squad, The Boss said this game could be a way of getting certain players some game time while also giving a start to back up keeper Korpela who may end up just been the Cup Keeper - Korpela was one of 7 changes to the starting line up from the 6-0 League win at Villa last Saturday in the league, while City made 6 changes to there starting line up but have a bugger and better squad, England women's boss Phil Neville was once again in attendance for an Everton Game

City started on the front foot and the 1st big chance fell to our ex forward Kelly who was played through by Stanway but Korpela is out sharply to close down the shot on the angle from around 6 yards out, it looked a cert goal, and just moments later Kelly was again denied by Korpela when another ex toffee Jill Scott fizzed the ball across the 6 yard box from the right and it ran all the way through to Kelly at the back post but the former Everton forward could not beat the keeper at the near post, on 10mins City's Rose Lavelle meet a Demi Stokes cross with her head but Her effort went high and wide, It was one way Traffic the opening stages, but unbelievably and against the run of play to say the least Everton took the lead on 20mins when A low cross found it's way to Club Captain Danielle Turner who was unmarked at the back post to give the Toffees the lead, Just a minute later and Everton should have maybe had a 2nd when they did not take advantage after a dangerous ball in from Sorensen caused problems, Korpela then made a brilliant save on 27mins to deny Rose Lavelle but offside was then give, Jill scott for City then had a tame header which was very easy on 32mins, City again were close on 37mins after Great work by Jill Scott to evade her marker on the right but her low driven cross is very well defended with Kelly there on the spot, but at HT it was Everton with the 1-0 lead in a game dominated with the ball by City, but with determined defending, Excellent keeping, a little luck and the goal from near enough the only Chance from Everton which was the difference.

Chloe Kelly at the start of the 2nd half got away a quick shot on target but it was held by Everton keeper Korpela.Alex Greenwood's free-kick then went incredibly close on 50mins but clipped the netting on top of the goal, but on 51mins Man City did get the goal that had looked likely most of the game when from a driven Greenwood city corner Rose Lavelle turned it home spectacularly with the outside of her right foot, it was once again like most of the 1st half all city this 1st 10mins of the 2nd half, Sorensen for Everton then had the City keeper Karen Bardsley saving low down to her left after the ball came all the way through from a cross missed by everyone on 59mins in a rare chance that i think was actually the 1st save the keeper had made for City, the 2 Everton subs seemed to have an effect on Everton as they then had there best spell of the match, Gauvin then had a shot fumbled by the city keeper on 66mins but there was no Everton player around, Kelly for city then fired in a low cross along the 6 yard box that only needed tapping home but no one could reach it, Guavin after city messed around at the back took a powerful shot that was well saved by the city keeper on 68mins, City then send in an inswinging corner that was somehow missed by City players, but Man city did take the lead on 76mins when from a low cross from the right from Georgia Stanway - Chloe Kelly finished right footed pass Korpela, Just a minute later Korpela then made a fantastic save right footed save when City were clean through, it went 3-1 on 93mins when From the tightest of angles,18-year-old Jess Park wraped the game up for City with a wonderful finish after looking like she had lost the ball in a tackle, but the game came to an end and it was a well deserved City win overall in a game that was always going to be a massive tall order, this was Everton's 1st lost of the season

The EFC goalkeeper was to blame for the second and third goals. The City defence looked shambolic and was totally almost comically absent for our goal but the commentator made no mention of either. Strange sort of commentators are used for these games. Perhaps they are told not to criticise or mention bad play?

Not sure how you work that out for the 2nd and 3rd goal, no chance on the 2nd and the 3rd should be defended way better-the keeper made a number of saves to Keep Everton in the game

They must do something about the commentators which I have noticed is a common feature in televised top women's games. It spoils the effect by making it unreal to the listener. I have watched a lot of their TV games this new season and last, and the excited voices of the commentaries do not match the general play you are looking at. A mens' dull game and there are plenty enough, do not get this excited shrill always positive commentary. It is no coincidence and they must be instructed to talk it up? It fools nobody and harms the overall effect.

A few Highlights of tonights game via City

Thanks !!! I don't think this result is the end of the world. In terms of investment etc in the Women's team, I think we acknowledge we're way behind the likes of City, Chelsea etc. Though lets not let this result get in the way of the fantastic progress we have made, and the job that Willie Kirk is doing here. End of last year, I was disappointed when Chloe Kelly and others moved on, but that's the nature of the game at all levels, and am more than happy with the new players who have arrived. Hopefully the ladies take the positives (yeah I know we lost) from this result, and can build on it for a better outcome in the FA Cup final.....

I expected defeat v City for the reasons you say - City were always going to be so strong and we used a new formation of 3-5-2 for this Cup game as a test as well as many changes, we did well to take the lead right out of nowhere as we hardly got out our own half, City were so on top so much of that match, but sounds like we are going to use this cup for Test formations and to give players minutes that are not playing to much, next game this comp is man utd a few days after the Man City FA CUP Final - lose that v man utd and we could be out

Kelly was Brilliant for City and for me Willie Kirk should have been named boss of the month but today it actually went to the Brighton boss i think for the simple reason they got a 0-0 at City in a game they didnt have to many shots, Anyway i expect us to beat West ham sunday and then win the following week v Brighton before a 2 week break then the final-Hopefully Raso has recoved from what i think is a Hamstring Injury

Manchester Utd have bought a whole new team in the last year or so. I just watched a grim game with Spurs who lost to Utd 1-0. Everton should sign the Spurs goalie. The broadcast was a perfect illustration of what I said yesterday about the commentaries, this time by a woman. She was in a high pitch of excitement throughout when there was little or nothing to shout about. Whoever employs the womens' game commentators should really take a long hard look at how they are trained, and if they want to retain viewers do not take us for idiots. It spoils it for those viewers who are interested in seeing the development of the womens' game, and they are kidding nobody by shouting great this and superb that when the opposite is true. Maybe turning the sound off might be better until they learn to become more professional and objective commentators. "Oh great save as the ball is shot straight at the goalie! " Yeh man, OK whatever, I shall persevere but not for ever.

Were did you watch the game ? commentator was a man, why would the team who have conceeded none in the league need a new keeper, Plus man utd got the best of what was around for free mostly 2 years ago and they were very good free's which they have added to

Oh you are joking surely? Most defo a woman shouting. I am not referring to the Everton game but to the Manchester City game which I watched on my son's TV in Manchester. Never mind, must persevere and keep watching. It should improve given the chance.

Allister mann was the commentator for the Man City v Everton game wednesday and the only person on the game ?
Today it was a man for the spurs v man utd game with the side kick giving her thoughts on the game and not the commentator, Think your making something about nothing as i have not one seconds problem with anything man or woman
