The 2024 AFL Season Thread

If Curnow stopped, and slotted that Carlton would have gone on to a 3 goal win, had them on the ropes, instead coughed it up and made life difficult.
End of the day, 4 pts is 4 pts. Other teams have to do their part now and we get a week off to get some bodies closer to fitness.

What's the business with opening round last week & then round one this week. That makes no sense at all. The merkins who run the AFL, don't they have better things to do with with their time than invent pointless sh!te.

I was away last week with work & only just discovered it tonight looking at the fixtures & table. Got completely confused.

Anyway, Collingwood who jagged a flag last year are off to a flying start 0-2.

This opening round stuff is a load of nonsense so it is. It's something to do with promoting the game in NSW and Queensland i think.

Yeah the Pies premiership hangover continues. Could they go from premiers to wooden spooners within the space of a year?🤣

I’m gonna have to learn the rules of this carry on if I’m moving to Geelong. Current understanding is a fight with ball somewhere in the middle.
If the ball goes through the middle sticks you get six points, If it goes through the posts at the side you get one point.

It's a great sport you should have no bother getting into it!lol

Well, this is quickly becoming the season from hell for Hawthorn.

They looked absolutely clueless against Melbourne. The game plan was not to have one.

I am lost for words how bad they were.
Collingwood lost again. They could be on zero wins from four after that trip to the Gabba next week.lol

I thought North Melbourne were going to beat the Dockers only for them to blow it. I'd say that defeat could really knock the stuffing out of the Roos.

North will get a few scalps this season. They'll work on their plan and Clarkson is no fool, be interesting to see if AFL rescind on their additional priority picks at the end of this season.

NSW is fast becoming a place not many will look forward to going this year, lastly West Coast are in for some hurt.

Indeed mate and the Dockers aren't going that great either, despite their win at the weekend.

It looks like the cup will be staying out of Western Australia for a fair old while yet i'd say!

This pretty spot on. North have a great bunch of young players so they will look good at times and then look crap at other times. Will be good in a few years.
GWS and Sydney look like the ones to beat this year.
Pies very well could be 0-4. I will be at the Gabba on Thursday night so hope at leats we put up a fight.

I'm taking nothing for granted against the Roos this Friday. The good Friday fixture against Carlton is their marque game really. So they'll be right up for this one.

Comfortable win for Carlton against North Melbourne. The Roos did bring the lead down to four goals at one stage, but Carlton were decisive winners in the end by 137 points to Norths 81 points.

Collingwood finally got their first win for the year at the Gabba as well. They have an easy enough game against Hawthorn up next. Although you never know the Hawks might spring a suprise there!

Yeah, as a north supporter im pretty dirty about the game we had 5 midfielders around that 15 disposal mark that's too many players not doing enough. A lot of fellow fans and media are saying that we are young and these results are expected, the problem is the underperforming is coming from the senior players.

I hold out hope as we have played 2 of last years preliminary finalists who havent lost in three games plus fremantle who is undefeated thus far. We get Brisbane (another prelim finalist from last yr) looking to fire up after all this vegas trip controversy. North nee a bit of luck.

The Hawks woes continue.
Stupid, unforgivable, costly mistakes. Sicily & Breust massive culprits - turnovers, missed goals.
Nick Watson needs to find his goal kicking boots - & quickly.
They lose confidence too easily & sink into a hole when the opposition kicks a couple.

Did I mention the ludicrous umpiring decisions. Jack Ginnivan is obviously paying for crimes committed at Collingwood. He could have been beheaded on Monday & wouldn't have received a free.
