The Ashes 2013 Thread

I'm struggling with all this British excellence in the sporting arena to be honest. When I was a boy, Englands cricketers couldn't hit a barn door, Britain had come back from Atlanta 96' with one medal, France seemed to always win the 5 Nations at England's expense, pretty much all of the British tennis players never came close to winning anything, Frank Bruno had got battered by Tyson etc etc etc

This year, Murrays won Wimbledon, Lions won the series, a Brit might win the Tour De France and we might even win the bloody ashes to boot!

I hope everyone is enjoying themselves because it's all downhill from here I'm afraid
It's a good job we've got the English football team (Full, U21, U20, Women's) to keep everyone's feet on the ground

Same team for the second test. Happy with this, Finn will have a good test match, a little concerned over Bairstow as a couple of others have pointed out, he has a good range of shots, he just has a couple of obvious flaws which are easily highlighted in test cricket. Any other better number 6 candidates out there?

I hope James Taylor gets another go, sadly he will probably have to wait for Morgan, Crompton and of course Bopara to all fail again first

Be a draw I think. I hope they stick with Finn, he bowls brilliantly at Lords, and the best way to give him some more confidence is to show confidence in his abilities by picking him. He's ranked one of the best bowlers in the world for good reason.

I agree, I just dont want Bresnan in the team, how can you have a seamer with a gut in this day and age, an england bowler hasnt annoyed me this much since matthew hoggard

Be alright if he was as good as Goughy, but he's ****e.

love the cricket, though all the hype what with playing Jerusalem etc is all sky's doing I imagine which I can't say I'm a huge fan,The boys in the studio are great and very knowledgeable.Anyone else remember the glorious days of radio three listening to CMJ,John Arlott,Brian Johnson, and Freddie Trueman.magical radio ,very dated I'd guess nowadays.

anyway, got a feeling A few of the England lads will feel they didn't do themselves justice at Trent Bridge and will be trying to put that right in this test,England to win comfortably

I doubt it'll be a draw unless the weather interferes for several reasons. Draws are much less common in cricket now.

The days of flat pitches offering 500 easy runs are mostly a memory.
Disregarding the last test, batsmen don't have the benefit of the doubt nearly as much as they used to.
Modern Test cricket like any sport has evolved, and the game is far more aggressive now.
And lastly, both teams will be going out all guns blazing for the win.
