Who would you have instead Foxy? Batting candidates are all a bit meh in my opinion.

i don't think compton is the answer, but he should have been kept there just for now. He treasures his wicket and scored back to back centuries. How many chances have they given people like bairstow and bopara who have never scored a century? It wasn't too fair. Especially after how many innings had root had? only had about 6, still only 22, not sure why the need to rush it.

ye your right bl , carberry at hampshire , even trescotick for the home series, upgrade trott to open , root has got into the bad habit of not trying to score runs.

I love watching Carberry, he is an utter beast of a man. Should at the very least be opening in the 1 dayers and T20 but the selectors just don't seem to have faith in him

.......think this afternoons session will be the key to this test match. If we have a lead of 70 or so at tea with the loss of no more wickets then we'll be in the driving seat. The Aussies knock 2 or 3 over and they'll look like the winners.

bairstow needs to play his normal game here. he's smashed better bowlers than lyon before, just needs to hit him out of the attack especially given watson's gone off injured. His usual nervous fannying around for 18 isn't going to do anything here. If he smashes a quick 50-60 though we'll be in a great position.

it's not working for him not playing his natural game, there is no use picking him as a no.6 who'se suppose to smash quick runs with prior/tail if he's not going to do just that.

Looking at an overnight lead of around 200 here, very good day so far

good considering the top 3 cocked up again, i agree. bairstow started well by taking the attack to the bowlers, got a bad bounce off that ball though.

hopefully prior can get an overdue fifty, we'll be well ahead then

no point in that night watchman at all. He barely protected bell who nearly got out 3 times whilst he was there. Also, why would you want to keep someone on 95 off the strike? Bell had to keep getting singles after his hundred to get bresnan back on strike, he just played like a normal batsman, utterly pointless.

would have been much better with prior out there, smash a quick 20 no and leave the aussies deflated.

match evenly posied though
